The cruise ship was already in international waters.
I knew my kidnapper. He was Leo Kade.

Leo was an investor who had repeatedly approached our research lab in the past. However, I kept rejecting his offer as I sensed he had ill intentions. We didn’t lack funding, either. Thus, we never accepted his offers, regardless of how many times he approached us.
“You really are a genius among geniuses, Ms. Quill. In just year, you’ve created a miracle. But it’s such a waste to use your impressive breakthrough on disabled paraplegics. So how about you work with us instead? Together, we could make a lot of money in the future!” Leo said.
He was a bad person, as I had suspected.
Leo belonged to a major criminal organization. Their group wanted me to use my research to develop a chip that could control the human central nervous system. They intended to use it to infiltrate certain places. Then , it would be easier for them to carry out their criminal activities.
“Forget it!” I replied.
It was difficult to control people using a chip, but even if it was possible, I would never do something so criminal.
“Don’t be so quick to reject me, Ms. Quill. We also have Mr. Holland with us, so you should choose to be on our winning team–especially if you don’t want anything to happen to him,” Leo threatened.
I glared at him. I didn’t know where Mr. Holland was being held, so I couldn’t afford to act rashly.
I tossed and turned later that night, unable to sleep. I kept wondering what had gone wrong that led to me being kidnapped. I also began to plan my escape.
Suddenly, the door to my room was gently pushed open.
I immediately tensed. My nerves became even more taut as heard soft footsteps moving closer to me. At the same time, I readied myself to strike the person.
I had had surgery to remove the steel rods and bolts from my body six months ago. So now, I was no longer like a fragile doll–I was sturdier than before and wasn’t afraid to fight back.
The person reached my bedside and was about to touch me, so I quickly unleashed a kick.
Surprised that I was awake, the man froze for a split second before quickly reacting. He dodged and grabbed my leg.
Then, he softly said, “It’s me, Emi.”
My eyes widened in disbelief at the familiar voice. Lifting my gaze, I found Irvin’s eyes.
Overcoming my shock, I was about to say something when Irvin motioned to remain silent. I immediately shut my mouth.
Irvin released my leg once the footsteps outside my room had passed.
“Get dressed. I’m getting you out of here,” he instructed as he handed me a coat.
“Mr. Holland-“I started to say.

I knew this wasn’t the time for conversation, so I remained silent despite having a lot I wanted to say. Putting on the coat, I then swiftly followed Irvin out of the room.
The cruise ship was large and had many members of the criminal organization onboard. Additionally , the ship was on international waters, so the police couldn’t come to our rescue.
We couldn’t face them head–on, so we could only quietly leave the cabin and head to the main deck. Then, we would jump off the ship and swim to the speedboat Irvin had waiting for us.
I was very worried for Mr. Holland because of this, but Irvin softly reassured me. He had arranged for excellent swimmers to be on Mr. Holland’s rescue team. They would make sure nothing happened to him.
I looked at him as he talked. Irvin’s determined expression and calm voice gave me an unusual sense of security. My feelings toward him became complicated at that moment.
We had successfully left the cabin and were about to meet up with Mr. Holland’s rescue team. However, a harsh alarm suddenly blared onboard the cruise ship.
Oh no, we had been discovered!
