“ Emi , I don’t know what you’re talking about . ”
I turned my gaze toward him and chuckled. “Shaun, the great Professor Green. To be honest , I’ve always seen you as a dear friend. You have no idea how grateful I was to meet you that night to have guided someone as capable and talented as you onto the right path and given Mr. Holland the chance to mentor such an outstanding student like you.”
As Shaun thought about the past, he parted his lips to say something, but in the end, no words came out.
“But as much as I was grateful back then, I regret it just as much now, for introducing you to Mr. Holland and giving you the chance to ruin his reputation.” I continued to ask, “Shaun, how could you? You know how kind he was to you , how great of a person he was.
“He dedicated his entire life to research and his students. He wouldn’t even treat himself to a decent meal, choosing instead to donate all his money to students in need. And yet, you tarnished l name. How could you?”
If he had slandered me and ruined my reputation , no matter the reason, I wouldn’t have felt this heartbroken.
Even if he had destroyed me, I wouldn’t have sought revenge, because he once saved my life.
I would have simply considered it even.
But how could he slander Mr. Holland, who was so kind to him? How could he destroy Mr. Holland’s lifelong reputation?
“Emi-”
“Don’t tell me you didn’t know,” I snapped. “Those intimate photos of me with Mr. Holland, the ones of you and me together, the ones of us at the hotel entrance. If you hadn’t planned it and positioned yourself so deliberately, those photos would never have turned out that way.”
After coming back from the event, I had taken a closer look at the photos once I had calmed down.
And as I remembered each scene in my mind, I quickly realized something.
I didn’t want to suspect Shaun because he was such a nice person.
He had saved me multiple times and helped me so much. We had also worked together well in academics.
To me, he was someone truly great and special.
I had trusted him completely, believing that he was an incredibly good person.
Even so, he was the only one who could have been behind all of this .
At first, Shaun looked as though he wanted to insist that he didn’t know anything, but after meeting my gaze, he smiled bitterly. “Emi, you really are smart.”
Without any investigation, I had suspected him, and I was right
I couldn’t hold back. “Why?”
Why would he do this to ruin me and the mentor who had treated him so well?
Shaun lowered his gaze, looking as if he wouldn’t explain. “I’m sorry, Emi. You can do whatever you want to me.”
My tone turned cold. “Shaun, you should know that even if you don’t tell me, I’ll find out the truth. And you should know how important Mr. Holland is to me. No matter how many times you’ve saved my life, I won’t let you hurt him.”
Bringing Mr. Holland into this was the one thing he should never have done.
Shaun remained silent for a long time before finally speaking. “Emi, even if you uncover the truth, will anyone believe you? You know that in situations like this, the public doesn’t care about the truth.
