Chapter 295
Irvin had once loved me with fiery intensity. However, he had also hurt me with his cold indifference.
He had also nearly killed me on several occasions. That being said he had also risked his life to save me just as many times. Before I regained my memories of him, all I could remember was the pain he had caused. Back then, the only thing I felt for hig was hatred.
After my memories returned, I remembered all his past affections and how he had been my salvation. But I could no longer love Irvin wholeheartedly. And yet, I couldn’t go back to hating him entirely, either.
I didn’t know what to do.
Right now, our love suddenly seemed so unimportant when Irvin was in a life–and–death situation.
I should just focus on treating his legs. And once they were fully healed, we would consider things between us settled. Then, he would live an endlessly wonderful life while I spent mine exploring vast opportunities.
We might not keep our marital vows of being together and living happily ever after–but was it really so bad?
Looking at it logically, I realized this was the best possible ending for our relationship. Even so, I couldn’t keep my heart from aching.
After what Magus had said, the rest of the Hardwells were polite when I saw “Timothy” again. Grace also no longer stood guard by his side as though I was some kind of thief.
However, Irvin’s demeanor had changed. He was closed off and completely indifferent compared to when I had run into him while with William.
That night, he had sounded possessive when he questioned what we were about to do at such a late hour. Then, Irvin had unhesitatingly left with me to receive treatment when I suggested it.
Later on, he had cooperatively removed his shirt just because I asked. And he had even indirectly defended me after Agatha
slapped me.
Now, when Irvin looked at me, I could see recognition in his gaze. However, he no longer had that instinctive attraction toward me. He was probably behaving this way because of the deepening effects of hypnosis.
My heart involuntarily throbbed at the thought.
I had already made up my mind that this was the best possible outcome for both of us. Despite this, I still couldn’t control the ache in my heart when I met his cold and unfamiliar gaze.
I could only avert my gaze and avoid his eyes. I had to focus on administering the external physical stimulation therapy— or in other words, device–assisted physical therapy–so that my mind wouldn’t wander.
I lifted Irvin’s shirt and was about to hook him up to the medical device when he abruptly grabbed my hand.
“I’m not actually Timothy, am I? I’m your husband, Irvin, right?” He whispered.
I looked up at him reflexively from disbelief. I was so startled that almost dropped everything I was holding.
However, when I met his gaze, I was so stunned that I had no idea what to think.
“You asked me to remove my shirt that night. That’s because you wanted to verify whether or not I was your husband, right?”
Irvin asked.
A person’s perceptiveness was never affected by circumstances.
As such , it didn’t matter that Irvin remembered nothing and didn’t know anything he still had a keen sense and had picked up

on subtle clues.
In the face of his unexpected questions, I genuinely didn’t know how to respond.
I didn’t like the idea that Irvin had to live as Timothy instead of himself. Still, William also had a point.
It didn’t matter that Irvin couldn’t be himself, for as long as he was still alive, he could still have a wonderful life ahead. It was definitely much better than being dead.
I couldn’t have my cake and eat it too.
“The scars on my back proved I’m Irvin. That’s why you suddenly started crying back then!”
Irvin said this with such certainty that it was pointless for me to even try to refute it. However, I also couldn’t admit it.
As I tried to come up with a response, Irvin spoke again.
“Don’t tell me I’m not your husband or that you were mistaken,” he exclaimed. “I wouldn’t feel the urge to hold and kiss you every time I saw you if I wasn’t him.”
Then , he added, “Every time I see my so–called wife, I’ll instinctively want to stay away from her. I also refuse to allow her to touch me because I feel like I’ll be sullied if I do! And once I am, I have a nagging feeling that someone won’t want me anymore ! ”
