Tears instantly welled up in Irvin’s eyes.
“ But, babe… Haven’t we been getting along well? ” he argued.
It was true. We had been getting along when he still had amnesia from the hypnosis.

“ You said you’d consider getting back together with me once my legs healed. And I only agreed to Grace’s deal because I had no other choice. I did it for you , babe!” Irvin continued, sounding wronged.
He had only accepted Grace’s deal to get me released. Yet , now that I had been, I was casting him aside.
“I won’t be grateful to you for getting me released from police custody, Irvin, because you’re the reason I was in there in the first place,” I flatly stated.
“ If you feel that I’m being unfair to you , you can always break your leal with her and let her put me back in, ” I added. “I have other ways to get out , so I don’t need you to sacrifice yourself for me.”
The person my lawyer contacted had already gotten back to me. He owned a company group that had a research lab. So, if I agreed to join their research lab, he could have me released without criminal charges.
What Mr. Holland had said to me the first time I had been detained was true.
People couldn’t knock me down easily if I weren’t powerful enough. And if I were ever in trouble, those who needed me would
come to my protection.
My outstanding research achievements had caught the attention of a major group, and they wanted me to join their research
institute.
But I didn’t lack money and wanted to give back to my country by developing the domestic medical industry. I wanted everyone who couldn’t afford treatment and advanced medical equipment to be able to use smart medical devices to make their lives
easier.
For that reason, I had turned down their invitation.
But then, I was arrested. And although William and Irvin said they wouldn’t let anything happen to me, I didn’t want to wait idly.
After all, it was better to rely on oneself than on others .
So, the first thing I did was to have my lawyer reach out to the overseas group.
I could have gotten myself out of the situation without Irvin’s help, but I would need to go abroad and work at their research
institute.
While I didn’t want to leave the country, I also didn’t want to feel like I owed him anything. So, if he thought what he did for me was a sacrifice, and he feels wronged by my response, I would go.
Irvin shook his head fervently at my words. “That’s not what I meant, babe!”
He kept calling me “babe,” so I couldn’t help but correct him, “First of all, you have to stop calling me ‘babe.”

Then , he started again differently. “Emi, I know I haven’t earned your forgiveness yet. And I know I’m wrong for doing this now. But I want to clarify that I genuinely don’t think I’m making some great sacrifice for you by agreeing to Grace’s deal!
“I only said that earlier because I wanted to make you feel sorry for me. Even if I hadn’t accepted her deal, I’d still need to
