Henry was a man of poor character who couldn’t do anything right However, he had a natural talent for creating all sorts of harmful drugs.
As mentioned, if these were medieval times, he would surely be exalted as a talented alchemist–known for his ability to cr and cure poison. Truthfully, any drug Henry casually created would definitely be considered illegal
Struck with an idea, I looked up at William and said, “Why don’t you talk to Henry directly? Given your status, I’m sure he wil happily tell you everything.”
William looked pleased at my use of the word “happily“.
“That’s actually why I came,” he admitted.
Then, thinking of something else, I quickly added, “Actually, no. Henry might not happily spill the beans to you. He’s very protective of Julianne, so he may lie to you instead. You’ll need to be careful discerning which of his words are trise”
William chuckled. “I know, don’t worry. Once I’ve gotten all the puzzle pieces, and if Julianne is no longer useful, F’ll hand her over to you.”
He was trying to save a life, and it was the life of Noah’s younger sister, no less. So, I wouldn’t insist otherwise. Besides, it was useless for me to do so anyway.
“Okay.” I nodded.
After taking a sip of his coffee, something came to William’s mind. “I heard you hit Grace Keller–that’s a gutsy move,” he stated.
Grace might not hold much power, but her position still commanded respect. Even William showed her some courtesy . Hence, he genuinely hadn’t expected me to have the guts to raise a hand to her.
“You’re usually so cautious with everything you do. I didn’t peg you as the type of person who would resort to violence,” he added.
I thought back to the fear I felt when Grandma was in the emergency room.
“Even a cornered rabbit will bite,” I replied.
And I was no rabbit, nor was I a pushover. So, I wouldn’t just let Grace and Agatha walk all over me.
Thinking of what Grace had done, William said, “Truthfully, Grace deserved it. In the future, feel free to hit her if she does anything out of line again. You don’t need to be afraid of her.”
He could choose not to show any courtesy to Grace too.
The look on William’s face said he would handle everything, so I didn’t need to be afraid of how Grace might retaliate.
Once again, it made me feel that he was truly a great uncle.
William was an influential and powerful figure. Yet, for Noah’s sake, he was helping me, even though I was just the woman his nephew was pursuing.
I was a little embarrassed by William’s generosity. I couldn’t possibly repay all the help he had given me.
“If you ever need anything from me, please don’t hesitate to ask, Mr. Ashford!” I blurted.
Although I knew there wasn’t much I could help him with, I still hoped I could be of some assistance to him. From a young age, I had always believed I should repay someone tenfold if they did something good for me.
“Don’t worry, I’ll definitely need your help. You’ve done well on Hugh Rudford’s case,” William reassured.
I was about to say something else, when a cheerful voice came behind me.

“William, I’m here!” Julianne called, happily fluttering toward us like a butterfly.

Her expression instantly dropped when she saw me sitting across from William. However, she didn’t dare say anything
Julianne had never been a fool. She carried the title of being William’s lifesaver , and he seemed to indulge her. However, it had been almost two years, and she had never once climbed into his bed.
She had gotten to know William more as she interacted with him. And the more she did, the more she felt he wasn’t the kind of person who would repay a life–saving debt.
This made her think William likely had ulterior motives for keeping her around. However , she didn’t dare investigate or do anything about it.
William was completely different from Irvin.
Julianne had known Irvin since childhood, so no matter what she did, he would always see her through rose–tinted glasses. He would also always protect her on instinct, but William wasn’t like that .
She could read people well. But even though she had been by William’s side for two years, she still couldn’t deduce what he felt or thought from his expressions. So, to her, he was a truly dangerous man.
Julianne had told herself many times that she couldn’t control a man who was as dangerous as William.
She decided she should make the most of the fact that he still kept her around and try her best to save as much money as possible. Then , she would at least have an endless supply of wealth
However, no matter how much Julianne told herself she couldn’t have feelings for William , she still couldn’t help herself. William was like a poppy flower. She knew he was dangerous, yet she couldn’t help being drawn to him.
