I couldn’t stand to even look at Julianne. So when I spotted her approaching, I said my goodbyes to William and left.
Not long after I left, William stood up and turned to Julianne.
“Let’s go. It’s time to meet your godparents,” he said.

Mom’s resentment toward me ran deep. Because Julianne was no longer around, Henry and Jeremy had been criticizing her for the past two years, which had made her feel suffocated.
But now, Mom was swelling with pride. Julianne was back and had brought such an influential figure with her, so the Quills might even be on the fast track to success.
“Be mindful of your words, Mom. She’s Lumi, not Lianne,” Jeremy reminded.
Mom instinctively covered her mouth. Remembering that Julianne had pending criminal charges against her, she didn’t dare
call her ‘Lianne‘ again.
William had seen how my parents treated me. And upon arriving at the Quill residence, he saw how well they treated Julianne. However, my parents weren’t doing so because of him—it was simply how they had always treated her.
William couldn’t help but feel curious. Why would some people treat their adopted daughter better than their biological one?
He believed there had to be a reason for this. After all, something had to be fundamentally wrong when someone loved their adopted daughter more than their biological one.
William glanced up at the assistant who had accompanied him. The assistant met his gaze and immediately understood what it meant. With a nod, he stepped aside to make the necessary preparations.
Henry was so honored by William’s presence that during dinner, he pulled out the prized bottle of whiskey he had been saving for over 20 years.
“This is just a regular meal for our family, Mr. Ashford, so there’s no need to be shy. Please feel free to make yourself at home!”
he exclaimed.

Once William was done interrogating Henry about whether he had conducted any drug trials on Julianne, he decided to satisfy his curiosity.
Turning to Mom, he asked, “Julianne is adopted, and Emilia is your own flesh and blood , correct? So why do you love Julianne so much but care so little about Emilia?”
