While I couldn’t completely let go of Irvin, I was no longer the person I once was.
Back then, I had placed love above all else, so loving Irvin had been the most important thing to me. I’d devoted myself to him and treated him like he was my entire world. He had been the source of all my emotions—from happiness to anger , and from sorrow to joy.
Now, my top priority was my studies and research. I would never again give up the academic path I loved so deeply for anyone.
Julianne watched as Mitchell apologized to Professor Weiss and tried to curry favor with him. Then, she saw the way Professor Weiss treated me with warmth and respect.
Hatred simmered behind her eyes.
She felt life was so unfair. She had to work hard for everything she wanted, and yet those very things seemed to fall effortlessly into my lap.
She didn’t want to take any more risks. But despite this, she was so furious that she couldn’t resist the urge to. She wanted to destroy me once and for all.
Grace observed the seething Julianne before lowering her eyes. She realized she had made a mistake before.
She had so many methods at her disposal to deal with me. Yet, she had foolishly dealt with me personally. And now, after that misstep, it was incredibly hard for Grace to backtrack.
Irvin had been watching Julianne too. She was the reason I had been barred from entering and almost couldn’t attend this conference. At this thought, his gaze instantly turned cold.
Feeling his icy stare on her, Julianne glanced at Irvin and shuddered in fear. She suddenly regretted attending this conference. She had originally come here because she heard I would be attending. She thought she would use the opportunity to make things difficult for me. However, not only had she failed to do so, but she might have put herself in trouble.
Because of this, Julianne was already thinking of excuses to leave early. But unexpectedly, Mitchell held onto her the entire time and even kept introducing her to prominent scholars of varying fields.
Julianne was smart. She had once been set on marrying Irvin. But when she realized it was hopeless, she immediately gave up on him.
Later, she had fallen hard for William and loved him more than she had loved Irvin. She had longed to have a relationship with William. But then, she came to understand nothing would ever happen between them and that William was merely using her. Thus, she dropped him without hesitation.
Instead, she changed tactics and began using the platform William had given her to meet other men of high caliber–and Mitchell was one of them. Through him, she had gotten to know many powerful and influential men.
To Julianne, that was her only way out. Hence, after mulling it over, she decided not to leave early.
As Mitchell continued introducing her to various prominent professors, she found herself comparing them to business tycoons. These professors might not have been as wealthy, but she still did her best to present herself well–seizing the chance to leave a good impression.
Research scholars weren’t as wealthy as business tycoons, but they sure were a lot more gullible. They were so fully invested in their research that they were relatively naive when it came to everyday life and relationships.
And while Julianne didn’t have any academic inclinations, she was naturally gifted when it came to romantic entanglements. On top of that, she had a pure and gentle appearance , which was exactly the type that geeky men liked.
