I wouldn’t care about that at all if he hadn’t claimed to love me and if our marriage had simply been transactional.
But now that we’re getting married the next day, and after he had repeatedly said that he loved me, he went to a bar to sleep with aprostitute.
This wasn’t about whether he had another woman before marriage. It was a matter of his character.
And just like William said, we weren’t even married yet, and Gideon was already so bothered by the fact that I had been married before.
Once the perfect image he had of me disappeared after marriage, would our relationship still be what I had hoped for – simple and fulfilling?
When I thought he was a man of great character, I never even considered what the darker side of marriage could look like. But now, seeing what he could do even while still madly in love and before we were even officially together, I couldn’t imagine how much worse it could get after marriage.
The firm determination I had struggled so hard to build instantly crumbled.
I didn’t know why things had turned out this way. I just wanted to settle down , start a new life, and live like an ordinary person.
But everything fell apart just when it was within reach.
“Don’t overthink it,” William said. “And don’t worry about not being able to find someone to marry. As for Noah’s grandfather targeting your company , I’ve already convinced him.”
He had only come after settling the matter.
I looked at him, still unsure of what to say.
“Go home. It’s too cold outside,” he said.
My mind was a mess, but hearing that helped calm me down a little. I didn’t know what to think anymore, so going home was probably the best thing to do.
Just as I was about to turn toward my car, William grabbed my arm. “ I’ll take you home. You’re not in the right state to be driving right now.”
Thinking about how chaotic my mind was and how much I valued my life, I didn’t resist.
Just as I was about to get into the car, Cordelia called, saying her fiancé had arrived and asking me what time we were going to

Then , out of reflex , she asked, “Are you still thinking about Irvin and struggling to move on? Do you regret your decision? ”

“Then why?”
“ I’ll tell you when I get home.”
This wasn’t something I could say over the phone. Besides, I didn‘ want to share my feelings in front of William. Cordelia lived just across the street from me, so I planned to talk to her once I got back.
She knew me really well and could tell that something must have happened. She told me she would wait for me and hang up without pressing any further.
After I got into the car and calmed down a little, I suddenly thought of something and asked William not to drive off yet. Then, I took out my phone and called Gideon.
