Chapter 40

I looked at Julianne, whom Irvin was holding in his arms, disdainfully. I really couldn’t stand people like them—always claiming innocence yet doing everything to prove otherwise.
Irvin seemed to remember that he was holding Julianne. He quickly put her down, ignoring the dark expression on her face.
“Lianne sprained her ankle just now. I was just taking her to the hospital,” he explained.
In the past, whenever I questioned the closeness between him and Julianne, he would always get impatient, accusing me of being unreasonable and difficult, and of projecting my insecurity on him.
He never bothered to explain himself.
But now, when I no longer needed any explanation, he finally felt the need to do so.
“I don’t care what you’re doing with her, nor do I want to know,” I said coldly. “I only mentioned it to remind you that you have no right to question me about anything!”
I had lost enough to this scumbag. I didn’t need to be accused of infidelity too.
After speaking, I smiled apologetically at Shaun and was just about to leave when Irvin pulled me into his arms forcefully. His expression was dangerously stormy. “Emilia, don’t forget that you’re still my wife.”
I looked him in the eyes fearlessly. “Am I now? And so what? Does that mean you can hold any woman you like, but I can’t even be helped by someone when I almost fell?”
Irvin looked like he wanted to reply, but he didn’t know how to. In the end, he could only hold me tighter.
I frowned. Just as I was about to say something, Julianne spoke up pitifully, “Irvin, my ankle hurts. Could it be broken?”
I scoffed and looked up at Irvin. “Why are you still standing there? Your precious Lianne is hurt. She broke her ankle! You should send her to the hospital now, before she ends up permanently disabled!”
My pointed sarcasm seemed to hit a nerve. Surprisingly, he didn’t abandon me immediately— as he would have before–to rush to Julianne’s side the moment she cried out in pain. Instead, he glanced over at Julianne and said, “Mr. Walker will send you to the hospital.”
Julianne’s face fell.
My face fell too. Narrowing my eyes, I glared at Irvin. “You haven’t fired Travis Walker?”

Before Irvin could say anything, Travis walked in.
Behind Irvin’s back, he threw me a mocking glance, as if saying that I had no right to fire him. To him, I had probably lost my mind after almost drowning.
Furious, I slapped Irvin. “You fucking son of a bitch!”
I had thought that his faults were just limited to our relationship, but apparently, he was just a piece of shit in general matters too. I must have been blind to have fallen for him in the first place!
The slap shocked everyone, especially Irvin. He stared at me in utter disbelief.
With his good looks, privileged upbringing, and pampered life, he had never experienced such humiliation. Even in his darkest times, when his mother passed away and his father kicked him out, no one had dared to treat him like this.
It was even more unthinkable, now that he was the CEO of a successful company.
Julianne was the first to snap out of her shock. “Emilia!” she screamed. “How dare you! What gives you the right to hit Irvin!”
I laughed coldly. “What gives me the right? The fact that he’s my husband, as far as the law is concerned! If you don’t want me to have that right, then try harder!”
If she was upset and thought I didn’t deserve him , then she should work a little harder to steal him away for good!
