Irvin had an impulsive streak. But no matter how rash he had beef he had never strayed when it came to love and fidelity.
I had a strong physical aversion in the sense that I would never touch him again should he sully himself with another woman He knew if that happened, I would dump him. Not only that, there would be no more us–ever.
Irvin had the same aversion too. He would never allow himself to be physically intimate with any woman but me. If something like that actually happened , he would lose his mind. Not only that, but he would also feel as if he had been “tainted“.
So, even if I were willing to take him back, he wouldn’t be able to low his “tainted” self to be by my side. He couldn’t accept it- absolutely not.
However, he couldn’t even raise his voice right now, let alone struggle.
“What are you saying, Tim? You’re drunk…” Grace said softly.
She wasn’t afraid of Irvin’s threat. When she had decided to do this she had already accepted the possibility that this would be a fight to the death between them.
That was why Grace told herself she had to find an opportunity that would allow her to succeed on the first try. Because if she failed, it would be over for her.

However, the more upset she felt, the more determined she was to go through with her plan. Tonight, she had to succeed . She had to climb to the very top so that no one could ever humiliate her again. Everyone would have had no choice but to revere her and grovel at her feet.
Seeing that his threats had no effect on Grace, Irvin negotiated, “If you don’t go through with this tonight, I’ll make sure the Keller family is yours, Grace! Not only that, I’ll even hand over the Hardwell family too!”
Before she could respond, he added, “I mean it! I, Irvin Sawyer, ama man of my word!”
Grace could tell from his eyes that he was being serious, so much so that it made her hesitate for a moment. She knew how much he loved me. He would literally give his life and even money for me
But in the end, she didn’t change her mind. “I don’t have anything planned, Tim. What are you talking about? I’m just trying to help you home.”
She believed Irvin would give up all of his fortune for me. And after observing him recently, she had come to understand his
character.
