Beating me to the punch, Cordelia answered, “Yup. Emi’s body hadn’t fully healed at the time. So she was really putting her life at risk when she saved that person!
“She even dragged him all the way up the beach before leaving to get help. But when she came back, the person was already
gone.”
As mentioned, Cordelia loved reading romance novels. Back then, on Daiti, we learned Julianne had rescued William and that a big shot like him was whisking a housekeeper like her away to be pampered. When Cordelia heard this, she couldn’t help recalling the person I had saved.
Now, when she talked about it , she was a little rueful. Cordelia wondered why the person I had saved wasn’t some handsome hunk who had tracked me down to repay me. She was disappointed that there was no romantic twist like in the stories she read.
Knowing exactly what Cordelia was thinking, I couldn’t help laughing.
“It’s already in the past. Stop sulking over it,” I teased.
Cordelia pouted. “I just think it’s so unfair.‘
As my best friend, she had always stood in solidarity with me. And since Grace had bullied me in the past , Cordelia especially despised her.
“Did Grace really save you, William? Someone like her doesn’t seem like the type who would be compassionate enough to dive into the water and save someone,” Cordelia said.
She admitted she was judging a book by its cover and that she was being prejudiced. But Cordelia genuinely didn’t believe someone like Grace would have the heart to rescue a drowning man.
William didn’t answer her. Instead, his gaze heated up as he looked at me.
At the time of his near–drowning, he had been mostly unconscious. Even so, William still vaguely felt someone dragging and rolling him toward the beach’s high ground.
He had once suspected I was the one who had saved him. Now, as everything started to align , he was even more certain I was his true savior.
This made him eagerly ask, “When did you save this person , Emi? Was it a man or a woman?”
I didn’t know why William was interested in the person I had saved. Still, I answered, “He was a rather tall man. But it was too dark, so I couldn’t make out his features.”
I also told him when and where this had taken place.
Upon hearing this, William didn’t even need to check to confirm that I was his lifesaver. On that evening and at the location, he was the only one who had been rescued.
When he heard I had also called security to search for the person , his gaze instantly turned frighteningly sinister. Someone as intelligent as him naturally didn’t need to investigate further in order to figure out what had happened.
All of this had been Grace’s plan. Lying in wait to take advantage of the situation , she had bribed the security guards who had come searching for him. She had even tampered with the hotel’s security footage.
All the things that William felt were strange about his rescue now had an explanation. This made him huff in disbelief.
He had been a sharp man his whole life. Yet, unexpectedly, a woman had made a fool of him. He seriously couldn’t believe it. Sensing a change in his mood, I looked up at him and asked, “What’s wrong?”
William’s gaze deepened when he returned my gaze. For a moment, something seemed to surge from the depths of his heart. However, at the thought of Noah , he shoved the feeling back down

Smiling , he patted my head. “It’s nothing. I’m here to discuss a collaboration. You and your friends enjoy your meal– we’ll talk later. ”
“ I smiled back at him. “Okay. You should go ahead.”
After William left , Cordelia pursed her lips as she stared in the direction he had gone.
I glanced at her. “ What’s the matter?”
“ William was suddenly interested in the person you saved,” she replied. “So, I thought it was because he had mistaken his savior. I thought you were the one who had saved him back then instead of Grace. But in the end, he didn’t say anything!”
