Henry knew what I said was true. That was why he kept trying to persuade me instead of just drugging me unconscious and sending me to Muricano.
Even so , he didn’t tell me what I wanted to know. Instead , he threatened , “ If you refuse to go and cooperatively work on the research project , something bad will happen to Cordelia!”
“Then, the same goes for Jeremy and your precious grandson!” I threatened back.
Toward the end of last year, my sister–in–law gave birth to a chubby baby boy. Henry adored him dearly and cherished his life more than his own.
Henry’s eyes widened in shock. “Do you understand what you’ve just said, Emilia?”
“I do,” I replied.
Henry couldn’t hold back and yelled, “But Jeremy’s your brother! And his son is your nephew!”
I scoffed sardonically at this. “And I’m your daughter.”
“Y–you… You… You…” Henry sputtered.
He was so outraged that he couldn’t even speak for a long time.
In the end, he defeatedly plopped back down on the couch. “I’m helping them persuade you because of a dear friend of mine. She needs a new heart, and they’re able to provide a matching one.
“So… you’re saying you’re not part of that criminal organization?” I asked.
I observed him closely, not wanting to miss even the tiniest change in his expression.
Henry snorted. “Aren’t you giving me too much credit?”
Truth be told, I wasn’t sure. William couldn’t even see through him, so how could I? I had never been good at reading people
anyway.
He tried to convince me again. “Their research focus coincidentally aligns with your area of interest, Emi. So please, just join
them.
“They’ve staffed their lab with the best researchers. You’ll definitely get twice the result with half the effort working with them than with your current research team.
“Also, right now, they’re still willing to ask you nicely. So, don’t push them to touch those around you. You may be able to intimidate me using Jeremy and my grandson, but what can you threaten them with? Do you really want to see something bad happen to Cordelia and her family?”

Grace felt Irvin had changed a lot recently, so much so that even though she wanted nothing more than to see him dead, she sometimes couldn’t help but waver in this resolve.
She also couldn’t keep herself from fantasizing.
For instance, her gaze had lingered on a jewelry set earlier. Grace hadn’t even said a word. Yet, Irvin had someone bid on the set and bring it straight to her. Because of this, the other wives present at the gala were envious of her.
“You’re so blessed, Mrs. Hardwell! Not only is your husband handsome and capable, but he also dotes on you so much! All of us could just die from envy!”
“Exactly! You really are lucky, Mrs. Hardwell!”

Grace listened to the envious voices around her and the romantic tale about the jewelry set. As she did, she couldn’t help glancing at Irvin, who was discussing business not far away. She couldn’t describe what she was feeling as she studied him.
Irvin was exceptionally handsome. While he and Timothy looked the same, their characters were different. Hence, despite their identical looks, they felt like entirely different people to Grace.
She didn’t want to say much about Timothy. As for Irvin, Grace had never encountered a man like him.
