Chapter 451
451
Grace’s heart sank at this realization, but she didn’t let it show on the outside. Acting as though nothing was wrong, she just kept smiling at me.
I had completely moved on from Irvin, and it also no longer mattered to me that he was with Grace. That being said, Cordelia still couldn’t stand the sight of them.
So, upon hearing Grace’s pointed remark, she couldn’t resist retorting, “Say hello? To you two? What makes you think you’re worth that effort?”
If the Hardwells weren’t as powerful as they were, Cordelia would’ve charged forward and slapped them both by now. To her, Irvin was a bastard, and Grace was the tramp he had cheated with. She was utterly epulsed by the pair.
Grace was vicious and had a vindictive streak. I wanted to keep Cordelia from crossing her, so I gently tugged on Cordelia’s arm to signal her to calm down.
Then, turning to Grace with a smile, I said, “A friend of ours will be giving birth soon , so we’re here to pick out a gift for her.”
Still wearing a smile, Grace replied, “Is that so? What a coincidence! Tim and I just happened to come shopping for our children too! But being a typical clueless guy, he can’t give me any helpful feedback. Since you’re also here to shop for baby things, could you help me pick something, Ms. Quill?
“I’m pregnant with twins, but we don’t know their genders as of yet. So, I’m torn between getting the yellow, blue, or pink,”
Grace’s words shocked me. She was pregnant with twins too?
Unconsciously, my hand moved toward my own belly. I couldn’t keep my emotions from stirring at this strange, uncanny coincidence.
However, I caught myself in time just as my hand started to move. With a quick redirection, I picked up a nearby toy that was especially cute,
Then, turning to Grace with a smile, I answered, “Given the Hardwell family’s wealth, I think you don’t need to be hung up on something like this, Mrs. Hardwell.”
I didn’t give her a chance to respond. Picking up a three–piece set for a newborn from the shelf beside me, I said, “We’ve found what we’re looking for, Mrs. Hardwell. Take your time browsing.”
I handed my selections to the sales assistant nearby for her to ring up the items.
The moment Cordelia and I stepped out of the maternity store, she couldn’t hold it in anymore.
“What was that nonsense about not knowing which color to choose? Please–she was obviously just trying to show off that she was pregnant with Irvin’s kids! And twins, no less! She just wanted to provoke you! What a complete bitch!” C lia ranted.
Smiling, I patted her hand comfortingly to try and calm her down.
“Grace is flaunting her pregnancy to rile us up, and you getting angry is giving her exactly what she wants. She can show off all she wants. After all, it’s not worth getting upset over a man I’ve already discarded,” I said.
Irvin and Grace had exited the store shortly after Cordelia and I did. So, while I hadn’t spoken loudly, they had managed to catch my words.
Upon hearing them, Irvin’s still–clenched fist somehow tightened even more. If he squeezed any harder, his hands would probably bleed.
Our gazes had met after I had entered the maternity store. However, aside from that moment, I hadn’t spared Irvin another glance.
My total disregard for his existence felt as though someone had plunged a knife straight into his heart. Irvin had felt pained by my ignoring him. And now, the pain had intensified. It was as though that knife was being viciously twisted, and he was being

gutted alive from the inside.
But the worst part was that Irvin couldn’t do anything about it. He had no choice but to silently endure the pain.
As he watched me leave, it occurred to Irvin that my indifference toward him would only grow. It would reach a point where I would become completely uncaring toward him–so much so that wouldn’t even bat an eye if he were to drop dead in front of
Irvin’s pain worsened so much at this realization that he abruptly went deathly pale.
