Chapter 459
Grace saw how much Agatha cared about Timothy. She loved his torn children so much that she even wanted Irvin–her own son—dead for their sake.
Grace couldn’t help but feel a little conflicted. She wondered how Agatha would react if she found out that her beloved son wasn’t actually dead and that he was absolutely indifferent about her.
But Grace didn’t show any of this on her face. Instead, she held onto Agatha’s hand and comforted her.
“Mom, don’t worry,” she said. “Dad’s just watching you closely for now. Once he relaxes, we’ll have more opportunities.
“Besides , the twins aren’t even born yet. We still need Irvin around until they are slightly more grown. If you’re too worried that he’d turn against us once he has full control, you can convince Dad not to hand over things too soon.”
Agatha thought that her words made sense. That seemed to be the only option for now.
But…
Agatha stared at her and asked, “Grace, you’re not starting to have feelings for Irvin, are you?”
Grace had been the one most eager to see him dead before. But now, she was suddenly calm.
Before she could say anything, Agatha continued, her voice rising in alarm, “Grace , you must never fall for him! He’s just acting.
You can’t fall into his trap.
“I know he looks exactly like Tim, and he treats you well. That makes it hard not to have feelings for him. But no matter what, you can’t fall for him or feel bad for him! We can’t let him replace Tim!”
Sensing that Agatha was getting more and more anxious and fearful , Grace quickly comforted her. “Mom , don’t worry. I would never have feelings for Irvin. I know he’s just acting right now. In fact, he probably wishes I were dead.
After Grace repeatedly promised and reassured her, Agatha’s anxiety began to ease.
But it only made her more desperate to see Irvin dead. She was afraid that before he seized full power, Grace would fall in love
with him.
Timothy’s legacy, his career, wife, children–everything that belonged to him–she would never let anyone touch.
Especially not Irvin.
She despised him. He should have been the one who died. Why was it Timothy instead?
The more she thought about it, the more she was consumed by hatred.
Grace had to spend a long time comforting Agatha before she could leave and return to her room. Just as she stepped out of Agatha’s room, she saw Irvin walking toward her.
The closer he got to gaining full power over the Hardwells, the stronger his presence became. That occasional trace of innocence ‘he once had was completely gone.
She could understand why Magnus had grown so fond of Irvin. It was a shame that he was using his outstanding talent and hard work in vain for someone else’s benefit.
Watching him approach, Grace couldn’t help but wonder.
If he ever found out that Timothy hadn’t died for him, but faked his death to use him for free labor and completely destroy his life, would the kindness in his heart be shattered completely?
It was really strange. He looked exactly like Timothy and shared identical genes, yet their personalities were drastically
different.
Pushing those thoughts aside, she smiled at him. “Tim, you’re back.”
