We lived in the same world and belonged to the same social class. And yet, look at the kind of man Grace ended up having as a
husband.
Timothy was heartless and had faked his own death. He might even cheat on Grace and bring back a bunch of illegitimate children for her to raise in the future.
Oh, let’s not forget–Timothy had known full well she wanted to dig Irvin in order to sleep with him. Yet, not only had he not stopped Grace, but he had even helped her. He had helped her deal with Irvin and even made sure she made it to Irvin’s bed.
As for me? Irvin couldn’t even go on living because he believed head touched another woman.
Grace and I had both married Hardwell men. Our husbands were even identical twins, born from the same womb.
So why? Why were they so different? They were like night and day. Why was it that Grace didn’t match up with someone who truly loved her? What made her undeserving of being loved like that?
The more someone lacked something, the more they craved to have it–and Grace was no exception.
She might be calculating and cruel. But once upon a time, she had been young and hopeful too.
Back then, Grace had married Timothy because of the prestige that came with the Hardwell family’s name. That being said, Timothy had caught her eye too.
She had sincerely offered up her heart to him. She dreamed of a happy and loving marriage with him.
However, not only had her marriage lacked love, but she had been forced into another cold and emotionally numbing abyss- one that made her even more cold–hearted and ruthless than she already was.
Snapping out of her daze, Grace couldn’t help but smile sardonically when she realized what she had been thinking. How melodramatic she had become, brooding over her life. Wasn’t it good enough to just have money and power?
Timothy narrowed his eyes at her. “What are you smiling about?” he asked.
Changing her bitter smile into a sweet one, Grace curled into Timothy’s arms.
“Your words, of course!” she cooed. “I’m happy because of what you just said! But no matter what, I still want to carry my own children. Magnus and Agatha care a lot about my current pregnancy too. So, I have to protect my twins!”
A thought seemed to cross Timothy’s mind. Whatever it was made him reach out and gently touch Grace’s still–flat belly.
“Whatever you want, you’ll get,” he said. “I’ll listen to you and adjust my plan, so you don’t need to do anything. Just focus on the pregnancy and give birth to our babies safely.”
Grace didn’t care if Timothy genuinely meant what he said or if he was plotting something else. What mattered was that he no longer expected anything from her, and that was enough.
“Thanks, honey,” she said in a syrupy tone.
She snuggled deeper into Timothy’s chest, but her gaze drifted downward to Irvin below.
When something too wonderful didn’t belong to you, sometimes you couldn’t help wanting to destroy it.
William had made a big deal of announcing our engagement during the banquet. Because of this, the news very quickly reached
Noah.
As soon as he heard it, Noah dropped everything and immediately flew back. When he arrived, William and I were in the midst of going over the list of guests to invite for our engagement party.

Seeing how intimate we were being, Noah’s eyes instantly brimmed with tears.
“ Uncle Will… Emi…” Noah called, voice laced with hurt.

Yet, the two people he cared about the most had betrayed him. In that moment, he felt as though his entire world had shattered. Noah’s tall frame swayed. He looked as though he might collapse at any second. It was heartwrenching to watch.
With his mixed heritage, Noah had especially beautiful eyes that usually gleamed like gemstones. But now, his brilliant eyes were clouded with unbearable pain.
Then , as though something had occurred to him , the light returned to Noah’s pain–clouded eyes. They lit up so brightly that it was like staring at the sun that had broken through thick storm clouds.
“Emi, Uncle Will, did something happen? Are you just pretending?” he asked.
