Taking a step forward, Julianne asked with feigned confusion, “How did this happen? Didn’t you want to be with Millie? How did your uncle end up getting together with her instead? ”
Noah didn’t respond. He merely sidestepped her and continued on his way.
Julianne didn’t stop him, nor did she chase after him. She only sighed and said, “Millie really is something. We both know she’s aware of how much you liked her, and she certainly knows William is your uncle. Still, she got together with him.
“And the same goes for William. He can have any woman he wants, but he just has to choose Millie. And he knows just how much you liked her and can’t live without her too!” she criticized.
“So tell me how could they have done this to you?” she asked, trying to deliberately antagonize Noah. Aren’t you the nephew William holds most dear, and the little brother Millie cares most about? Regardless of who they want to be with, it should never have been each other!
“Did they even stop to consider how unbearable and heartbreaking it would be for you? You wouldn’t be hurting like this if they had chosen anyone else!”
Noah was aware that Julianne was trying to drive a wedge between him, William, and me. He knew she didn’t want the three of us to be on good terms. Despite this, his already clenched hands involuntarily tightened even more.
What Julianne said was true. If either William or I had ended up with anyone else, Noah wouldn’t be in this much pain or despair. He also wouldn’t feel like giving up on life.
This was especially so for William’s case. He clearly knew how much Noah liked me. And he was fully aware that everything Noah had been doing was for the sake of being with me.
William knew all this. He also knew how hard Noah had been working–desperately striving just for me. So how could he? Noah just couldn’t understand how William could get together with me. Seriously, how?
And that excuse about how William and I had mistakenly slept together because we had drunk too much and been drugged? That was bull! This kind of thing would never happen to someone like William, unless he wanted it to!
William had also claimed he had only gotten together with me because he also had feelings for me. Recalling this, Noah couldn’t keep his eyes from squeezing in pain
For Ava’s and Noah’s sake, William still hadn’t married or had children despite his age. While he really wished for his uncle to one day marry and have his own happiness, he never wished for this to happen with me, of all people.
For the entirety of Noah’s life, he had never wanted anything. Be it the Ashford family’s wealth or his grandfather’s fortune, he didn’t care for any of it. He had only ever desired to be with me.
So, Noah couldn’t fathom it. William knew just how badly he wanted to be with me. So he wanted to know why William had stolen the only thing he ever wanted. Why had William done this to him? Goddamnit, why?
Noah was in terrible pain because he felt he had been betrayed by the two people he cherished most. The pain was genuinely excruciating.

It didn’t matter how much he hated her. As long as Ava still wasn’t well, he had no choice but to tolerate and put up with her.
That was why Julianne had brazenly prodded at Noah’s most sore spot. It was also why she had been bold enough to try and turn him into her sharpest arsenal for taking down William and me.
