Chapter 495
Before Julianne had returned , Irvin had already lit up the entire city with fireworks for me on an early winter’s day.
I looked at him, puzzled, and was about to say something.
But Irvin spoke first. “That one doesn’t count. I wasn’t wealthy enough back then , so that fireworks show wasn’t grand enough. I want to give you one that is absolutely magnificent!”
I felt Irvin had no reason to hold another even grander fireworks show. It was all meaningless now.
But then, I remembered how he had lost the will to live. So, in the end, I agreed to go with him to the very seaside where he had once saved my life.
As soon as Irvin returned to Hardwell Manor, Agatha brought him bowl of chicken soup.
“You’ve been working hard lately, Tim. I’ve simmered this chicken soup for five hours, just for you. Come, have a taste,” she said warmly.
She placed the bowl down in front of Irvin as she spoke and stared at him. Her gaze was too eager, pressing him to drink the soup immediately. Once he did, he would be one step closer to death.
Magnus had warned Agatha not to do this. Grace had also told her to hold off on taking action against Irvin until the babies had been safely born.
Even so, she still didn’t stop poisoning Irvin. Only now, she was being even more discreet by using undetectable methods.
For example, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the chicken soup Agatha had made. The same went for all the other food she had made for Irvin. Even if Magnus were to look into things randomly, he wouldn’t find anything.
Still, Irvin would be one step closer to death if he drank this bowl of chicken soup.
Agatha had added a medicinal tonic to the dish. On its own, it was harmless. In fact, it was widely recognized as a powerful restorative.
What turned it toxic was the scent Agatha was wearing.
The subtle fragrance she carried was created from another herb. When combined with the tonic, it would cause Irvin’s body to slowly produce a toxin–one that would take away his life without warning.
Agatha came from a family that specialized in traditional medicine. She hadn’t inherited the family trade. Instead, she chose to marry into a more prestigious household and become a socialite.
That being said, Agatha had spent her entire childhood surrounded by medicinal herbs, which had left her with a deep understanding of their properties and interactions. It was this knowledge that allowed her to act maliciously while remaining undetected despite Magnus‘ strict surveillance.
However, Agatha didn’t realize that just because her actions couldn’t be proven, it didn’t mean they couldn’t be sensed through intuition. And honestly, her excessive attentiveness alone was the biggest red flag.
Irvin looked down at the bowl before him. Then, he looked up at Agatha. When their eyes locked, a chill ran down her spine for
no apparent reason.
Agatha knew her plan was foolproof. She was also confident that she wouldn’t be found out. However, for some inexplicable reason , she felt as though Irvin had seen right through her when she met his gaze.
It was as though he knew what she was up to and that something was wrong with the bowl of chicken soup. Irvin’s gaze made her feel as though everything had been laid bare, which made her involuntarily clench her hands.
To be honest, Agatha also felt this wasn’t the right time to make a move. She knew she shouldn’t be in a rush and should do

exactly as Grace had said . She should be patient until her precious grandsons were born , safe and healthy.
Despite this, she just couldn’t control herself. She couldn’t stop herself from wanting to strike as soon as possible. She wanted to see Irvin slowly march to his death.
This was because Agatha kept feeling that if she didn’t , she would be letting down her precious Timothy. She was also afraid. She feared that she might one day actually like Irvin, just like Magus had.
