Since Firusted Irvin would have no intentions of harming me , I hadn’t brought any bodyguards along when I left with him . 1 really regretted my decision as I watched people pour out of the cars in waves .
The emergency alert button I had on me came with a built–in GPS . Once pressed , my bodyguards would Instantly receive the distress signal and rush over. However , even at their fastest , it would take them at least 20 minutes to get here from my home .
Irvin and I were completely surrounded. Looking at the number of people, I knew there were too many for Irvin to take on , regardless of how good he was in a fight.
Irvin’s gaze instantly darkened as he took in the approaching attackers from beside me. Instinctively , he stepped in front of me and shielded me with his body.
“Don’t be afraid , babe !” he said.
He was protecting me just like always, but I still couldn’t help feeling something was off. But before I could dwell on it, the people who had surrounded us attacked him.
Irvin was a good fighter , but no matter how skilled he was, he couldn’t withstand fighting this many people alone.
He soon started losing ground. Still, he continued to protect me with everything he had. He didn’t give them a chance to lay even a finger on me.
“Emi, look out!” Irvin shouted and dove toward me. He used his large frame to shield me.
A split second later, someone struck him on the head with a metal rod. Irvin collapsed to the ground and lay motionless as blood instantly streamed down his face .
I stood there , frozen in shock as I stared at him lying in a pool of blood. But even in that dazed state, I still instinctively fought back when someone approached me.
But that person had sprinkled something unknown on me. I very quickly lost all strength and couldn’t even counterattack properly.
Seconds later, the world around me went black, and I passed out.
William and I were in a marriage of convenience and didn’t really exchange sweet words or romantic gestures. Even so, we still video called each other every night and would talk about work or other things.
That night, William called me as usual. However, I didn’t answer. And when he tried to call my phone, it was turned off.
Sensing something was wrong, he quickly called my butler.
When he found out I had gone out alone earlier in the evening and still hadn’t returned, his unease instantly intensified. While mobilizing all his connections to search for me, he rushed to his private jet and flew back to Claudeville.
And he was right, something was indeed wrong. Despite calling in every favor and utilizing every available resource, William couldn’t find any trace of my whereabouts.
He truly was an incredibly smart and remarkably level–headed man. Even though he had used everything at his disposal, he still didn’t know where I was. Because of this, he was very anxious. Even so, he didn’t panic or lose his head:
Instead, the first person he suspected was Irvin.
William knew I wouldn’t go anywhere without a large team of bodyguards, not while that criminal organization was still targeting me. The only person I would ever go out to meet alone was Irvin.
Plus, I had recently told him I wanted to talk to Irvin and convince him not to give up on his life.

If Irvin really was responsible, he wouldn’t have been so genuinely surprised to see William. His eyes also wouldn’t be so clear and unguarded.
This realization made William’s anxiety spiral out of his control. If Irvin wasn’t the culprit, then who was? Who else could have possibly gotten me to go out unaccompanied?
