I wasn’t the only one researching Al chip technology for brain application. Researchers from several other countries were working on it too.
I had met quite a few people from the same field at the internation academic exchange conference in Falveria. We had hit it off immediately and even made plans. Once I went to Muricano, we would form a research team and collaborate.
After the conference, we had also created a chat group. Once we had returned to our respective countries, we would often share issues and ideas in the group.
At first, the chat group was very active. Whenever a question came up, everyone would share their views. But not long after , the responses dwindled.
I had assumed we had simply drifted apart. I never imagined they had all been captured too.
Among them was Dr. Cooper Schneider, who was the one I was most familiar with. He looked at me and smiled bitterly.
As the one who had personally captured each of us, Simon knew we were all acquainted with one another.
Smiling as always, he said, “You’re all from the same field, and I’m sure most of you already know each other. So, there’s no need for introductions.
“This is Ms. Quill’s latest research result. Let’s review it together and see how we can use it to achieve a breakthrough as quickly as possible!”
He projected my data onto the large screen. When everyone saw it, their eyes were filled with surprise and recognition. They confirmed the research result was indeed real and legitimate.
Once everyone did, Simon had to leave because he had something to take care of. He said he would leave us alone to discuss it before stepping out. The moment he stepped out, everyone in the discussion room unconsciously exhaled in relief.
Most of the researchers here did their work for the benefit of humanity. They didn’t do so to become accomplices to criminals. They would’ve never chosen this path if they hadn’t been forced into it.
That was why they felt very tense when Simon was present. Now that he was gone, the stifling atmosphere in the discussion room noticeably lightened and even became a bit lively.
Finding humor in this bad situation, someone laughed and said, “Back at the conference in Falveria, we all said we would form a team and collaborate if we ever had a chance. And even though this isn’t quite what we pictured, I guess you could say our wish
came true after all.”
Everyone glanced at each other and ultimately smiled bitterly too.
“But you truly are remarkable, Ms. Quill! During the conference, you mentioned your research was stuck at a bottleneck. Barely any time has passed since then. Yet , you’ve already made such a breakthrough! With it, I believe all the results we’ve been chasing will soon be in reach!” a researcher exclaimed.
Hearing this, another researcher let out a long sigh and said, “If only we weren’t trapped here. Who knows how overjoyed we would’ve been with this kind of hope if the circumstances were different?
“There are so many people in the world who are stuck in comas or are fully paralyzed , waiting for technology like this to save them. However, not only are we unable to help them , but our breakthrough will be used to control people and make them do terrible things,” he lamented.
The brain–chip technology we envisioned developing was intended to treat medical conditions. We wanted to help patients who had suffered traumatic brain injuries and were in a coma or bedridden due to paralysis.
The technology was meant to help patients regain their independence and memory , stop cognitive decline, cure mental illnesses
The list goes on. It was never meant to be used to control people and force them to obey someone else’s will.
His words caused the relaxed and light mood in the room to turn gloomy and heavy again. None of us wanted to be in this

This criminal organization had our weaknesses in its tight grip, though there were a few amongst us that this didn’t apply to.
