No matter what William did , he would always place Noah’s and Ava’s safety first. That was why he hadn’t told Noah I had been
abducted.
Noah had also been hiding because he wasn’t sure how to face the news of my engagement to William. He hadn’t known I’d been captured , either.
When William had gone to rescue me, he had left a lot of matters to Noah to handle. Sensing something was wrong, Noah had looked into things. Only then did he find out I had been abducted. Once he had, he had rushed over in a panic.
Noah’s nerves had been strung tight the entire journey. And when he saw the way William was just now, his fear only intensified. That was why he had been a little unsteady on his feet after exhaling the breath he had been holding for so long.
It took him a while to recover. When he did, a thought struck him, and he instantly tensed up again.
“Is Emi… seriously hurt?” Noah hesitantly asked.
He wondered if that was why William was acting like this.
“No,” William answered.
That single word relaxed Noah completely. “Then, why did you look so glum earlier, Uncle Will?” he asked.
William had looked so gloomy earlier, as though something terrible had happened. That was why Noah had thought something had happened to me.
But William didn’t respond. He just turned his head to stare out the window and into the night. Then, still looking somber, he took drag after drag of his cigarette.
Noah had never seen his uncle like this before. He couldn’t help but ask, “What’s going on with you, Uncle Will?”
I had been successfully rescued and was also unharmed. So, shouldn’t his Uncle Will be elated?
Still, William said nothing. He just continued smoking with the same solemn expression on his face.
Feeling that William wouldn’t say a word, no matter what, Noah decided not to press further. He was about to go look for me instead.
But then, William unexpectedly spoke. “Irvin’s been hurt.”
William had a contact inside the criminal organization, which allowed him to swiftly gather news about Irvin. Just as he had guessed, Timothy wasn’t ready to let Irvin die yet. So, when Timothy had caught up to Irvin , not only had he not ended Irvin’s life, but he had also saved him.
However, Irvin had been shot from behind, so his condition was very dire. He might not regain consciousness again. As such, William didn’t know how to break this news to me.
Noah was stunned. He was about to say, “Shouldn’t this be a good thing? Why are you being like this?”
But then, he heard William say, “Irvin got hurt trying to save me.”
Noah was shocked.
Irvin and William were rivals in love. Shouldn’t Irvin have wanted William dead? Why would he have gotten hurt to save William? Also, knowing the kind of person he was, would he really protect his rival?
Noah loved me wholeheartedly. He felt I was wonderful in every way and only ever wanted to treat me right. Seeing me hurt was the last thing he could take.
That was why he especially loathed Irvin, who had hurt me deeply in the past. To him, Irvin didn’t deserve to live on this earth. That was why his immediate thought was that Irvin being hurt was a good thing.
