Once we got in the car, Cordelia looked at me with excitement. “Darling, are you thinking about going back to the lab?”
She really knew me so well. I’hadn’t said a word, yet she understood everything, just from the decision I’d made in my heart.
When I heard Mr. Holland mentioned that it wasn’t too late for me to return to the lab, I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
I couldn’t help but wonder if I could really go back to the lab.
Should I go back? Should I return to what I truly want to do?
I had always loved what I studied, and I really wanted to continue striving in the field I was passionate about. However, I had been away from academics, away from the lab for so long, and I wasn’t sure if I still had what it takes.
So, even though I had been thinking about it constantly, I just couldn’t make up my mind.
When I saw Victoria earlier, something in me clicked. I finally made the decision.
I wanted to fight for what I love, for the people who were waiting for me to succeed. Even if things didn’t turn out as I imagined, even if I didn’t have the strength I once had, wanted to give everything I’ve got.
“Yeah.”
When she got my confirmation, Cordelia excitedly hugged me. “Darling, I’m so happy! You know, all these years you’ve been by Irvin’s side, your world has revolved around him.
“Your life has been about helping him network and making his career more successful, about cooking better meals so he eats more and doesn’t get stomach problems.
“You tried everything just to make him love you more, yet his behaviour has hurt you, and made you suffer. Do you know how much it hurt me to see that?”
“Emi, you’re a shining star! Not only are you a genius, you’re also someone that everyone loves and admires! You were the top scorer in the college entrance exams, the provincial champion, and also got into Hurley University with the highest mark.
“You said your biggest dream was to use your intelligence to change patients‘ lives, and to bring happiness to those living with limitations. You were never supposed to lose yourself completely for a man, living so humbly and letting anyone walk all over you.
“Emi, you’re the most amazing, incredible girl in this world!” ”
From the very beginning, Cordelia had been against my decision to drop out and care for Irvin. She wanted me to shine in my own field, to do what made me happy, and to fight for my dreams.
She didn’t want me to forget who I was and spend every day cooking and cleaning for a man.
However, I was hopelessly in love back then, stubborn, and unwilling to listen. She couldn’t change my mind.
“Emi! Be that brilliant version of yourself again! Go back to being the person you were meant to be!”

Cordelia’s excitement made her words a bit jumbled.
I hugged her with a smile , even though my eyes had turned red. Her support only strengthened my resolve. When I glanced at the rearview mirror and saw Victoria still standing there, waving at us desperately as we drove farther and farther away. I couldn’t help but sigh.
Even though I had decided to give it my all, I genuinely didn’t know if I could still do it.
After all, I’d been away from’the lab for so long. After suffering that injury, I had forgotten most of my specialized knowledge.
Cordelia was the one who knew me better than anyone else in the world. Just from my sigh, she knew what was on my mind. She patted my shoulder and said, “Have faith in yourself. You’re a genius!”
“I’ve been out of for so long. I’m not sure if I can pick it up again,” I said, still uncertain.
“You definitely can! It’s only been four years… you’re only 26, still young! Plenty of people work for a few years and then go back to grad school. It’s just like your situation! Don’t be scared! Just go for it!”
I looked at my reflection in the car window. She was right. After all I had been through, I was still only 26. I was still young.
Just as I was about to say something, my phone rang. It was Irvin calling.
I didn’t answer. He called a few more times, but I still ignored it.
Then a message came through. When I read it, my expression darkened instantly.
