It wasn’t that William didn’t care about Ava. On the contrary, he would make anyone who dared to use her against him regret ever being born.
Since he told me not to worry, I decided to stop worrying. I wasn’t as capable as him at handling threats, so there was no need for me to worry about him.
Just like today, when William was taken away by the police during he business conference, he promised he’d come out unscathed.
And he did.
Even though we were technically protecting Irvin, as Timothy accused us of hiding a wanted criminal, he still handled it all flawlessly.
Thinking of that, I turned to him and asked, “How was it at the police station today?”
“It was fine. Just routine questioning,” he replied calmly. “I’ve already moved Irvin to a different location. His charges haven’t been confirmed yet, so strictly speaking, we’re not actually hiding a fugitive.”
He added, “Besides, Timothy’s influence doesn’t extend to Redwood. Irvin hasn’t committed any crimes here , so the local police have no right to detain him. We’re not in the wrong.”
William always thought everything through, preparing for every possible outcome before making a move. That was why, no matter what happened, he could always handle it with ease.
Upon hearing that, I finally felt relieved.
Even though he had assured me from the start that everything would be fine, I couldn’t help but worry I’d somehow drag him
into this mess .
Sensing my relief, he smiled and patted my head. “Don’t worry about it. Trust me.”
I hummed softly in response.
“Get some rest,” he said. “I’ve invited specialists from various fields to consult on Irvin’s condition tomorrow. We should head over early. ”
I was really grateful for his dedication to care for Irvin. “Thank you so much,” I said sincerely.
“There’s no need to thank me. This is something I should do. He saved me too,
didn’t he?”
No matter the reason, William didn’t want anything bad to happen to Irvin.
Remembering how Irvin had taken a bullet for William for my sake, I suddenly felt so complicated.
Irvin really wasn’t the same person he used to be. The old Irvin would never have done that. If this were in the past, I would’ve been overjoyed by his change.
I wouldn’t have cared about what he’d done before. I would’ve forgiven him completely, rushed into his arms, and never let him
But he wasn’t who he used to be anymore.
And neither was I.
I didn’t want anything to happen to him. I only wanted him to live well and was willing to do anything to protect him. However, my heart no longer beat for him the way it once did.
In fact , I had hesitated when I was considering using the babies I was carrying to give Irvin the will to live. I was afraid that once he woke up, he might try to take them from me.
