William smiled at me and said, “Stay here and talk to him for a bit’ll be outside.”

As William stepped out and was about to close the door, he saw No standing there.
Noticing that his nephew clearly had something to say, William calmly signaled for him to talk elsewhere. Then, he quietly shut the door and walked off with him.
Once they were outside, Noah couldn’t hold back any longer. “So… the babies aren’t yours?”
Since there was no point in denying now, William lit a cigarette and answered plainly, “No, they’re Irvin’s. ”
Noah froze. He had always believed the babies were William’s. Now that he knew the truth, his mind went.completely blank.
Just as he was about to say something, William spoke again. “Whether the babies are mine or not, nothing between us changes. Our relationships will stay the same.”
In other words, William was making it clear. He still planned to marry me, and there was no possibility for Noah to be with me. I would still be his aunt.
Noah’s words got stuck in his throat for a moment, but he quickly retorted, “How can you be so sure nothing will change between you two? Emi never truly got over Irvin. If he wakes up and finds out the babies are his, he won’t let her go.
“You really think that with the babies and the kind of love they had, they won’t get back together? Emi doesn’t even have romantic feelings for you, right?”
Noah knew William had feelings for me, but he also knew how deep my love for Irvin was. As long as I hadn’t completely moved on, I wouldn’t be able to love someone else.
He had always believed that something had happened between William and me by accident, that we ended up together because of the pregnancy. Even if I didn’t love William now, the babies gave us a future together.
But now, knowing that nothing ever happened between us and the babies weren’t his, he felt that the chances of me ending up with William were slim. On the contrary, the chances of me getting back together with Irvin seemed far more likely.
He might’ve been able to force himself to bless my relationship with William. But when it came to Irvin, he couldn’t bear the thought of seeing me with him.
“Uncle Will, didn’t you say you liked her so much that you were willing to steal her away from me? Then why are you helping her wake Irvin up instead of stopping her? Do you really want to see them together and lose her forever?” Noah asked, frustrated.
He genuinely couldn’t understand. If William truly loved me that much, why wasn’t he doing everything he could to keep me by his side? Why was he helping to wake Irvin up and giving him a chance to steal me away?
In the face of Noah’s confusion, William took a slow drag from his cigarette and stared into the distance.
“I don’t know if I’ll lose her for good, but I do know that I can’t stand seeing her in pain,” he said quietly.
He continued, “Irvin ended up like this trying to save us. If he never wakes up, she’ll carry that sadness for the rest of her life. She’ll never be truly happy. I want to be with her because I want to make her happy. How could I let her stay miserable for the rest of her life?”
