After whispering a few words in her ear, she stopped insisting
Still, she couldn’t help but look at me with worry as I got into the car. She didn’t look away until our car had driven off.
I was touched.
I had such good friends, a passion for my studies, and things I wanted to do. My future was filled with endless possibilities. I had to escape this muddy, miserable life as soon as possible.
I wasn’t sure if Irvin was trying to make conversation or what, but he asked, “What did you say to her that made her stop following us?”
I gave him a sideways glance. “What’s it to you?”
He clenched his hand that was resting on his lap, as if trying to suppress his anger. It must be difficult for someone who was always so high and mighty.
He seemed like he wanted to say more, but I had already turned my attention to the window, clearly not wanting to engage with him anymore.
However, he still didn’t take the hint. He grabbed my hand and placed it in his, gently caressing it.
I was disgusted by his gentle touch. I wanted to pull my hand away, but he held on tight.
I didn’t dare to pull my hand away forcefully, so I lowered my voice and said, “Irvin, if you want me to go to the hospital, let go of me now. You disgust me!”
Maybe it was because he had heard my cold, heartless words so many times in these past few days, but Irvin went from being shocked and angry at first to no longer being angry. Now, he even looked at me with an indulgent, affectionate gaze.
“Emi, I know you really don’t like Lianne, but no matter what, she’s your sister, and she’s been like a sister to me since we were little. You’ve wanted to donate blood when you saw the donation bus before, so how could you hesitate to donate blood to our family?
“You know, Lianne’s constitution is weak and quite special. Even the slightest accident could make her body unable to handle it. What if something happens if she receives blood from strangers we don’t know?
“Your mom and dad adore Lianne so much, they wouldn’t be able to bear it.”
I ignored his emotional words and coldly said, “Now, let go of me. Right now.”
Feeling my resolve, he sighed quietly and released me.
After pulling my hand back, I immediately took out an alcohol wipe from my bag to clean my hands.
Irvin sighed as he looked at me, offering a compromise, “Emi, just this once. After Lianne gets better, I’ll send her abroad to recover. I won’t ask you to do anything for her again, and I won’t leave you for her. Is that okay?”
I couldn’t help but think back to the time when I cried and begged him, pleading with him to keep his distance from Julianne and not abandon me because of her. I told him if he truly had nothing with Julianne, just send her abroad for treatment.
Back then, he always looked at me coldly, like I was a madwoman.
I couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh, looking at him with the same cold gaze he always gave me.
