After everything he had been through, William had grown into someone more mature than Noah or Irvin. His love was far more selfless and refined.
What he wanted most was for me to be truly happy. He didn’t want to see me suffer.
That was why he wasn’t just thinking about how to win me over, but on how to bring me more happiness.
Noah knew me well.
He understood that I would never be able to move on if Irvin never woke up. After all, he ended up like this trying to save me. I would be consumed by guilt and pain every time I thought of him.
Noah wanted to speak up, but he couldn’t find the right words.
Finally, in a defeated tone, he said, “So are we just going to stand by and watch her get back together with Irvin? If in the end, she still chooses him, then what was the point of all the pain she had gone through?
“No matter how much Irvin has changed, no matter how sorry he is now, he had hurt her so badly in the past. She’s lucky that she survived that. What if she didn’t? His remorse will be useless.
Some things in life just shouldn’t be compared. Once people did, they would realize that the things they once thought were unacceptable actually weren’t so bad after all. It might even be reasonable.

But now , compared to the possibility of me getting back together with Irvin, he suddenly felt that William and I should be together and it wouldn’t be a bad thing. He just couldn’t accept that I would be back with Irvin.
William felt the same. No matter how much Irvin had changed, the damage had already been done. If things had gone just slightly worse , I wouldn’t even be alive right now.
So even if Irvin regretted it, it wouldn’t make a difference.

“Noah,” William said gently, “I understand exactly how you feel. I feel the same way as well. But we’re not Emi. She should be the one to decide how to live her life, not us.
“Besides, just because she wants Irvin to wake up, it doesn’t necessarily mean she wants to get back together with him.
“We think what Irvin did to her was unforgivable. So imagine how much worse it would be for her. It’s true that Irvin had changed, but so had she. She’s no longer blinded by love anymore.
William knew me even better than Noah did. As he had been through more, he could understand me on a deeper level.
And he was right.
I desperately wanted Irvin to wake up and was willing to do anything to help him. However, I had never thought about getting back together with him.
No matter what he had done for me or how deeply touched I was, just couldn’t erase the pain he had brought me.
That pain was so deep that it was so unbearable to be facing him alone, especially now that he was unconscious.
