Irvin had once told me that the reason he treated Julianne so well as because Diana had been so kind to him. He had always believed that, given how good a mother Diana was, Julianne wouldn’t turn out that badly.
While I had never met Diana, I knew someone who could leave such a good impression on Irvin couldn’t have been a bad person.
But then, I found out Henry’s true lost love wasn’t actually Diana, but her younger sister, Regina Pincer. So, I had someone dig deeper into Regina’s background. And in doing so, I learned that Janne wasn’t Diana’s biological daughter at all.
Back then, Diana and Regina had given birth at the same hospital and just a day apart.
Regina was a single mother. When Julianne was born, she had been afraid that she wouldn’t be able to give her a good life. She didn’t want Julianne to suffer alongside her. Thus, she swapped Julianne with Diana’s daughter, Lumi.
Unaware of this, Diana had raised Julianne with love and care. Meanwhile, Regina raised Lumi without a care and neglected her, like she was some stray animal. Later on, Lumi ended up being burned alive because Julianne needed a new identity.
Henry had met Regina first, and it had been love at first sight for him. However, they had lost touch because they hadn’t exchanged any contact information.
Then, when Henry went to college, he saw Diana and noticed how much she resembled the goddess–like first love from his past. So, he started pursuing Diana instead. But ultimately, he failed and ended up with Mom instead.
Not long after Henry and Mom got together, he realized the girl he had fallen for at first sight was actually Diana’s younger sister. But by then, Regina already had someone else by her side. So, he could only hide his feelings.
But later on, Regina lost her husband. However, Henry and Mom already had me and Jeremy. And Grandma would never allow Henry to get a divorce. So, even though his first love was single again, he could do nothing but watch her from afar.
It was that age–old law–the more one couldn’t obtain something, the more one would desire it.
That was how Henry thought of Regina as the one who got away. And for her, he was willing to do anything.
Henry had long known Julianne wasn’t Diana’s but Regina’s biological daughter. That was why he treated her with such favoritism despite her flaws.
Because of this, I really wanted to know what he would do. When his lost love was on the brink of death and her biological daughter was the only one who could save her, what would he decide to do?
Would Henry continue doting on Julianne? Or would he even take her life for his sweetheart’s sake?
I admitted I was a little perverse right now. But all I had wanted was to never have anything to do with Henry again. Yet, he just had to press me relentlessly and aggressively. So, why should I be the only one to suffer?
As Regina was Julianne’s birth mother, she, of course, treated Julianne especially well. Naturally, Julianne had always been especially fond of her “aunt” too.
Being as smart as she was, Julianne had always been puzzled as to why Regina doted on her more than her cousin, Lumi. Now, with everything that had been revealed, she immediately had her answer.
Maybe, deep down, Julianne had already known instinctively. She had already guessed why Regina treated her so much better than her “biological” daughter, Lumi.
Hence, Julianne wasn’t shocked by the revelation , nor did she have difficulty accepting that Diana wasn’t her birth mother. She also didn’t dwell on the news.
All she did was look at Henry and exclaim, “Don’t listen to the nonsense Emilia is spouting, Dad! Even if I am Aunt Regina’s biological daughter, there’s no guarantee my heart is a match! Besides, even if it is, Aunt Regina would never extend her life at the cost of mine!”
