“Millicent! You’ve become so cruel! Lianne is in the emergency room fighting for her life, and you still dared to hang up on our calls!”
Aside from Irvin’s repeated calls, my parents also took turns calling me, but I didn’t answer any of them.
Before I could step away, Irvin moved in front of me, blocking my mom from hitting me.
“Mom, don’t be angry. Emi is here now.”
The tall and sturdy Irvin blocked my mom completely, making sure she couldn’t reach me at all.
If this had been before, I would’ve been touched to see him protect me like that, but now, I just wanted to let out a cold snort.
“Irvin, stop protecting her! She clearly wants to kill Lianne! Lianne’s in the emergency room, fighting for her life … Her life is clearly hanging by a thread!”
My mom was so angry that her whole body was trembling.
It seemed like Julianne was really on the brink of death. Being cold–hearted and ruthless, I still wanted to push her over the edge,
If she were really dying, how could there still be time to wait for my “clean” blood?
If worse came to worst, didn’t my mom and my brother have the same blood type as me? They were both healthy, completely capable of donating blood to someone as fragile and special as Julianne.
Why did it have to be me?
It was so obvious that something was off. Anyone who actually used their brain would sense that something was
wrong.
Instead of seeing the problem, Irvin was frantically trying to get me to donate blood.
However, I didn’t say anything. His urgency gave me the perfect opportunity to break the stalemate. I seized it, feeling too happy to even consider telling him that Julianne’s injury was a problem.
“Mom, you already said that Lianne’s life is hanging by a thread. Let Emi donate blood first.”
When I heard Irvin words, I couldn’t help but snort inwardly.
It wasn’t that he had any lingering feelings for me, or that he was defending me because of my mom. No, he was just trying to get me to donate blood faster.
Turned out, I had been overthinking things.
Unfortunately, my blood donation wasn’t going to happen anytime soon.
When I saw my lawyer rush in with his briefcase, I immediately waved him over.
Irvin frowned when he saw my lawyer. “Why did you call Mr. Stern over?”
I smiled at him and said casually, “Of course, to have him discuss the divorce with you!”
Irvin frowned deeply as he responded, “Emi, stop messing around!”
Honestly, I hated hearing him say that. Every time he told me to stop messing around, I felt the urge to slap him hard, especially now.

1 looked at him seriously and said, “Irvin, I’m not messing around. I’m very serious about wanting to discuss the divorce with you. Here’s the divorce agreement. Look it over and sign it, then I’ll donate the blood immediately. If you don’t sign, then I won’t donate my blood!”
As I spoke, I handed him the divorce agreement I had prepared.
Irvin didn’t even glance at the agreement. He just threw it aside, rubbing his temple as if he were exhausted.” Emi, don’t cause trouble now. Lianne is in a critical condition.”
“Yeah, Lianne’s condition is critical, and she needs blood as soon as possible. You need to stop hesitating since her condition is critical! Please, just sign it!”
I was actually more anxious and more concerned about Julianne than he was.
However, my behaviour enraged Irvin. He clenched his fists as though he were barely holding back his anger. “Emi, don’t force me to take drastic measures!”
I ignored him and turned to my lawyer, “Is it illegal to force someone to donate blood?”
Mr. Stern adjusted his gold–rimmed glasses as he said, “Using violence or threats to force someone to donate blood can lead to a prison sentence of five to ten years, along with a fine.”
I shrugged as I asked, “So, Mr. Sawyer, are you planning to go to prison?”
