Chapter 562
It was an ordinary morning when Irvin finally woke up.
Like every other day, I opened the door to his room and planned to start off by telling him about the weather.
When Irvin’s doctor had delivered a hopeless diagnosis, I hadn’t wanted to accept it. But In the end, thad no choice but to accept the fact that he might never wake up.
Still, I visited Irvin every day and desperately wanted him to wake up. But no matter what I said, he remained as lifeless as ever.
Thus, I no longer came to the hospital with optimism like I had in the beginning. I also no longer expected to see Irvin awake when I pushed open his room door.
Like usual, I pessimistically entered Irvin’s room, only to see litting up in bed and staring out the window.
I was so shocked that I thought I had to be dreaming.
Irvin had turned in the direction of the door when he heard it opening. When he saw me, he smiled and called out my name.
Even then, I was still stunned. I still believed I was dreaming.

Ever since Irvin had gotten hurt, I wished so badly for him to wake up. So I often had dreams like this moment. In my dreams,” when I visited him, he would unexpectedly wake up miraculously, sit up, and greet me.
What I was seeing now mirrored those dreams exactly. That was why I couldn’t snap out of my shock and was convinced that t was dreaming. And once I woke up, Irvin would still be lying lifelessly in his hospital bed.
Irvin kept calling my.name. Even so, I was still frozen in shock. That was until I heard the nurse scream.
She had come in for a routine check. Irvin’s doctor had declared he was in a vegetative state and would never wake up again. So, when the nurse saw him not only awake but also sitting up, she was so ecstatic that she let out a shriek. Only then did I finally jolt back to reality.
Before I could fully register what was happening, the nurse grabbed my arm and exclaimed, “The patient is awake, Ms. Quill! He’s awake!”
I had been visiting Irvin every day. And each time, I would talk to him about many things. However, his condition had never changed.
Even the nurse felt sad for me. So, when she saw Irvin was awake, she was especially happy for me. She was so thrilled that she squeezed my arm too tightly to the point where it actually hurt.
However, the pain made me elated because it meant this wasn’t a dream. This was real! Irvin really had miraculously woken up!
I slowly lifted my gaze to Irvin’s eyes. He was looking tenderly at me.
He was really awake. When I saw this, I couldn’t stop myself from tearing up. My vision became so blurry that I couldn’t see Irvin clearly anymore.
“Don’t cry… Emi,” Irvin said with much effort. He had just woken up, so his speech was still a bit sluggish.
He hadn’t felt any pain when he took that bullet for me, nor when he was bleeding out and about to die. However, the sight of me crying made his heart ache terribly.
Tonly realized I was actually crying when Irvin told me not to cry. Lowering my head, I let my tears fall freely. Then, I couldn’t help letting out a laugh.
My feelings for Irvin really ran too deep. Even after everything that had happened, even after I had completely let go of him, I still couldn’t help crying for him. I couldn’t keep myself from feeling sorry for him, and still wanted him to be safe and well.
Coming back to her senses, the nurse exclaimed, “Oh, right! I’ll go get the doctor! I’ll go get him!”

Then , she rushed out.
Wiping away my tears that were about to fall again, I finally completely overcame my shock and looked properly at Irvin. Irvin met my gaze. His heart clenched again when he saw how red my eyes were from crying, “I’m okay now, Emi… Don’t worry.
Irvin had just clawed his way back from the brink of death. And yet he wasn’t even worried about himself. All he cared about was not making me cry or worry about him.
