As he understood what I was implying, Irvin’s eyes instantly welled up with tears. However, unlike his old self, he didn’t stubbornly insist on being with me. He also didn’t use our children as leverage to convince me to stay with him.
Irvin simply looked longingly at me with eyes that were red with shed tears. “Alright. If there’s ever a time I could use both of your help, I’ll definitely ask.”

“But if you still feel like you owe me and want to make it up to me, then do it for our children. Beat Timothy, and build an empire so strong that our children will be privileged enough to live as they please. Give them the world!” I declared.
At the mention of our children, a tender and hopeful glint slowly appeared in Irvin’s despondent and bloodshot eyes.
“I will!” he said.
Irvin would wipe out every threat. He would live well, be optimistic and work hard. He would make sure his children became the happiest people in the world.
I couldn’t help but smile with gratification upon seeing Irvin like this. This was all I had ever wanted.
No matter what happened between us, our futures would still be whole and happy.
