Chapter 572
Once they had finished discussing the serious matters , Irvin looked at William.
“Why are you helping me? Aren’t you worried that I’ll take Emi away from you once I make a comeback? Don’t forget, she’s carrying my babies, not yours,” Irvin said.
He didn’t know how to define William. The William before him now was so different from the impression he had.
Faced with a question that was nearly identical to Noah’s, William simply smiled and replied, “If Emi is mine, you won’t ever be able to take her away from me. And if she isn’t, then even if you don’t try to, I still won’t have her.”
When it came to love, William believed all he needed to do was invest his efforts into earning my heart, instead of wasting energy guarding against Irvin or Noah.
William’s rational words made Irvin feel the same way Noah had–William didn’t love me deeply enough. Irvin had wanted to say so. But then, he remembered William had been willing to sacrifice his life for me.
This memory made Irvin believe it wasn’t that William didn’t love me enough. Instead, William’s love for me was a different kind, one that was more mature and more selfless.
Because of this, Irvin’s heart ached as he stared at William. And regardless of how badly it hurt, he couldn’t do anything about it. I already found someone better.
Irvin had always been prideful. He had always believed he was unmatched in this world. But for the first time in his life, he had found someone who impressed him and whom he couldn’t outdo–William Ashford.
Irvin didn’t feel reluctant to leave me with someone like William. He only felt heartbreak.
During the period Irvin was still comatose, I had kept forcing myself to get enough rest.
I reminded myself I still had my babies to think about, and I had to protect them properly this time. So, I told myself I couldn’t overexert myself or allow my emotions to fluctuate extremely.
Even so, I still couldn’t truly rest. I still couldn’t keep myself from worrying about Irvin or fearing that he might never wake up. When Irvin finally woke up, I was finally able to be completely at ease. As such, I had been able to sleep deeply and heavily.
Day after day, aside from eating my meals, I slept. It took a full week’s rest before I finally felt well–rested.
Ava had been hoping to spend more time with me to grow closer. So, when she saw I was back to normal, she immediately dragged me out to go shopping. But just as our car reached the gate, we were stopped–by Mom.
Even before she opened her mouth, I already knew why she had come.
William had taught me many lessons. I had had Julianne sent back to Claudeville’s police department and had her formally charged with everything she had done.
Mom still had a few connections in Claudeville. So, of course, she quickly found out I had had Julianne locked up again.
Julianne had always been the apple of her eye. So, when her various efforts to free Julianne amounted to nothing, she still came to me, even though she knew it would be useless to beg me.
“Please, Emi. I’m begging you. Please let Lianne go. She’s already lost everything. So, please, just this once, I’m begging you, let her go,” Mom pleaded.
After I had had Henry sent back home, I also had people watch him around the clock. Aside from allowing him to accompany Grandma, he wasn’t allowed to do anything else. He essentially had less freedom compared to being imprisoned.
Maybe it was because of this that Mom knew I was no longer the old me. The current me was very ruthless. I could treat my own father that way and not let him off. So, what hope was there for Julianne?

That was probably why Mom didn’t berate me loudly, nor use her identity as my mother to blackmail me emotionally like she usually would. Instead, this time, she was full of humility as she walked up to me and immediately dropped to her knees.
I didn’t even blink when Mom did so and was even looking at her as though she was any other stranger.
Seeing this, she wordlessly started grovelling. “I’m on my knees, En. I’m begging you! Please let Llanne go just this once! Please!”
Ava had already heard of the messy feud between me and Julianne from Noah. She knew that my parents were very biased toward their adopted daughter, Julianne. Meanwhile, they didn’t even love me, who was their biological daughter.
But despite what Ava already knew, she was still utterly shocked as she watched Mom beg me on her knees and grovel for the sake of such a malicious adopted daughter.
