“Emilia, I wish I had never met you in this lifetime!” Irvin exclaimed.

He looked at me like I’d done something that deeply wounded him. It seemed like I’d hurt him so much that he was ready to completely give up on me.
For a moment, that pain in his eyes tugged at my heartstrings despite myself. But I showed nothing on the outside. Instead, I smiled at him and said, “Right back at you . ”
I wished I’d never met him in this lifetime too. If I hadn’t married him, I might still be in the lab, chasing my dreams , with a healthy body to boot. Unlike now… I was scarred all over, inside and out.
Upon hearing my reply, Irvin suddenly laughed. His laughter was hearty and almost hysterical. “Fine! You’re really something, Emilia!”
He thought back to the time when I loved him. I went to great lengths and was willing to do anything. But when I no longer loved him, I seemed to despise even the person I used to be.
Irvin was aggrieved by the fact that I was so heartless.
He had once firmly believed that no matter what, my love for him was genuine and that I loved him as my life depended on it. All the things I’d done were because of how deeply I loved him. So, no matter what I did, he would tolerate me and couldn’t bear to punish me too harshly.
However, it turned out that even love that deep could be incredibly fleeting.
With one unexpected event, I withdrew all of my love without a shred of mercy. And to think that I could be so cold and unfeeling to such an unbelievable extent. He couldn’t believe that I said I regretted ever loving him.
I looked at his crazed state with confusion, unable to understand why he was so agitated. If he could say something like that, then why couldn’t I?
But then, I said nothing. All that mattered right now was that I could terminate our marriage.
After he was done laughing, he spoke in a tone that was icy and final. “Meet me at the courthouse at 8:30 am tomorrow. Now, get out of my sight!”
If I could withdraw my love so decisively, then so could he! Irvin wondered if I really thought he couldn’t live without me.
Deep down, he was still spoiled to the core by the unconditional love I’d once given him. He could lower his pride but not too much. In the back of his mind, he still wanted me to yield to him. He expected me to pamper him and regret ever treating him this way.
“Sure.” Completely unaware of what he was thinking, I quickly left without hesitation.
Like I said, as long as I could end this marriage, that was all that mattered.
Cordelia was worried about me. She’d been waiting somewhere near the hospital. As soon as I came out, she ran over to me and grabbed my arm. Then, she started looking me over to check if I was hurt anywhere.
Once she was sure I hadn’t suffered even the slightest injury, she breathed a sigh of relief and asked, “How did it go?”
I held up the divorce agreement in my hand with a grin. “From now on, I’m officially a fabulously wealthy single lady!”

Cordelia’s eyes lit up when she saw Irvin’s signature on the livorce agreement. “You’re amazing!” she exclaimed, hugging me and jumping for joy.
I hugged her back with a smile but didn’t say anything.

Just thinking about how this marriage would finally end tomorrow had me so excited I couldn’t sleep no matter how many sheep I counted. I’didn’t dare take sleeping pills either, as I was afraid they’d make me miss the appointment at the courthouse.
Unable to sleep even a wink, I got out of bed and went to the study to read. I planned to return to my postgraduate studies, so I needed to brush up on my knowledge.
Soon, I was completely immersed in the sea of knowledge and lost track of time.
It wasn’t until my alarm went off that I realized the sun had risen outside. I didn’t feel tired at all because I was doing something I passionately loved.
After tidying myself up a bit, I hailed a cab to the courthouse. I arrived way ahead of the agreed time. But still, I thought it was better to arrive early to avoid any unforeseen circumstances.
I couldn’t wait to end this marriage as quickly as possible.
