As the man spoke, he even stepped forward, trying to pull me toward him.
I frowned and instinctively wanted to step back. I felt deeply uncomfortable about getting dragged into their game.
But before I could do so, Irvin pulled me into his arms with one swift motion. His expression was frigid as hé growled, “Get lost!”
The man opened his mouth as if to retort. But when he met rvin’s terrifying gaze, he didn’t dare say another word. He even instinctively retreated.
In the next moment, he regained his composure. In an attempt to deflect his embarrassment, he muttered under his breath, “If you still care about her so much, why bother getting divorced?”
Although everyone around agreed that it was inappropriate for the man to involve another woman in his argument with his soon–to–be ex–wife, they couldn’t help but feel that he’d made a valid point. If Irvin cared so much, why were we getting divorced?
Under their scrutinizing gazes, I pushed against Irvin. I didn’t want to be so close to him, even if he had just helped me.
Upon seeing how much I resisted his touch, Irvin’s expression darkened further.
At first, the crowd assumed that he was the one eager to divorce his unremarkable wife based on his cold demeanor and aloof attitude. But now, after seeing how protective he was of me and how resistant I was to him, they started to realize it was I who wanted the divorce.
This shift made the women in the crowd direct their attention toward me, their gazes silently questioning why I would want to divorce such an exceptional man.
He had a great figure, good looks, and seemed to be rich. One wouldn’t even find a man like this on TV. So, how could I possibly give him up?
Faced with their scrutinizing and prying eyes, I lowered my head. Then, I took out my phone and opened a match- three game. I could feel the chilling air that Irvin had been exuding intensify rapidly the moment I started the game.
I ignored him, even as his gaze stayed fixed on me.
By the time I reached Level 777, it was finally our turn to process our divorce. I thought the current level I reached in my game was oddly fitting because seven was believed to be the luckiest number.
I believed that today would mark the official end of this marriage. But when it was our turn to handle the paperwork, I was reminded of the mandatory divorce cooling–off period.
We could only fill out the forms today. 30 days later, if neither of us changed our minds, we could return to collect the divorce certificate.
For a moment, I felt an urge to curse but held it in. Sensing my sudden drop in enthusiasm, Irvin became even more displeased. When he signed, he pressed the pen to the paper so hard it almost tore through the document.
I was concerned that he might damage the form and was about to say something. However, he slammed the pen down and walked out.
When I saw his complete signature on the piece of paper, I let out a breath of relief. I carefully organized the forms and handed them over to the court staff.
Before leaving, I went to the restroom.

I thought Irvin had already left, but when I came out, I saw him leaning against the hallway wall with a cigarette between his fingers. The faint smoke swirling around him obscured his excessively handsome face from view from time to time.
I knew he was waiting for me, but I didn’t think there was anything left for us to discuss now that we were getting divorced. So, I pretended not to see him and walked forward
It wasn’t until I was about to pass by him that he spoke. “Emilia, I’m sorry for not realizing that you were truly drowning during Grandma’s birthday banquet.”
He felt bad for being unbelievably careless that night. He added, “From now on , no matter what happens, you can come to me.”
I instinctively wanted to tell him that it wasn’t necessary and that we should simply stay out of each other’s lives. But then I remembered that without the divorce certificate the divorce wasn’t yet official.
If his pride was hurt, he might refuse to go through with our divorce out of spite. That would be a disaster for me.
So, I smiled and said, “Thank you, Mr. Sawyer. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going now.”
I turned to leave, but he suddenly grabbed my arm.
