Just then, William called. I could immediately feel his happiness as soon as the call connected.
Just as I was about to ask if he had found Noah, he said, “I’ve confirmed Noah’s exact location. Do you want to come with me to bring him home?”
Naturally, I joyfully replied, “Yes! When are we leaving? Where are we heading? ”
“Pack your things. I’ll be there soon,” William answered.

His confident response made me blurt, “You truly are amazing, William!”
My admiration for him ran deep. He was truly incredible.
The Bakers and the Ashfords had been feuding for many years. William was obviously a formidable force. I had assumed this war between him and the Bakers would drag on for at least a few years, but in just over half a year, he had completely ended it.
“Things with the Baker family ended so quickly because Irvin was a big help,” William explained.
Irvin his rival in love. And now that the twins had been born, Irvin was the biggest obstacle to his future happiness. Even so, he didn’t downplay Irvin’s contributions. He had even openly acknowledged them in front of me.
William wanted happiness that was born from genuine love, not manipulation or deceit. He had many tricks and tactics up his sleeve. If he wanted something, there was nothing he couldn’t get through cleverness. However, he didn’t want to use such means on someone he cared about.
His words stunned me. I knew he and Irvin had been working together, but I had always assumed it was a mutually beneficial partnership. I hadn’t expected Irvin to simply help him defeat the Baker family.
Snapping back to my senses, I didn’t say anything else besides telling William I would wait for him at home.
True to his word, he arrived soon after. He had already given a generous gift when the twins were born. But this time, he had brought yet another extravagant gift. So much so that I had difficulty accepting it.
“Don’t overthink it. I genuinely adore the kids. Irvin has helped me a great deal too, so it’s only right that I return the favor,” William said.
He glanced toward the twins as he spoke. They truly were so lovable that even someone as emotionally reserved as he couldn’t help wanting to spoil them.
He couldn’t help envying Irvin’s good fortune to have two adorable children. He also couldn’t keep from thinking about how
wonderful it would be if these two children were his.
Realizing what he had just thought, William huffed self–deprecatingly and looked away.
“Let’s go bring Noah home!” he said.
Knowing that I couldn’t refuse his gift, I didn’t say more. I handed the twins to Irvin, who had rushed over to take care of them, and then left with William.
Irvin’s gaze had been bright. But as he watched me leave with William, it instantly turned gloomy, and all traces of light vanished.
