“You know how difficult it has been for Irvin to get to where he is today. Millie, please…” Julianne reached out to grab my arm in an attempt to appeal to me.
But as soon as her hand extended toward me, I gave her a cold glare and said, “Julianne, don’t forget what I have in my hands. If you say another word or come any closer, I’ll ruin you right here and now!”
Julianne’s face turned even paler in an instant. She wanted to say something but stopped herself when she remembered the video I had. In the end, she didn’t dare speak.
Since I hadn’t yet received the divorce certificate, I didn’t want any unnecessary complications. I spoke just loud enough for only Julianne to hear.
My parents didn’t hear what I said, but when they saw Julianne suddenly blanching and looking like she might collapse from a light breeze, their anger flared even more.
“Millicent!” they chastised me.
Before they could continue, I interrupted, “Mom, Dad, I know you want Irvin to marry Julianne and leave all his assets to her. But can you be sure that he’ll marry her after divorcing me?
“What if he marries someone else, huh? All his assets won’t belong to your precious Julianne if that’s the case. They’ll have nothing to do with our family at all.
“Would you rather see that money go to someone else rather than to your own kin? Don’t forget that no matter what, I’m still your daughter and have a responsibility to care for you. Some other woman with no blood ties to you won’t have any obligation to do that.”
Dad was speechless. Mom was equally stunned.
“Emi…” Jeremy began to say something.
“Do you want me to leave with nothing so I’ll come back and compete with you for the Quill family’s assets? Grandma hasn’t handed over all her shares to you yet, has she?” I questioned sharply.
Jeremy fell silent right away, but he glared at me with much resentment. He couldn’t stand the idea of me easily gaining such a substantial fortune, but he was even more unwilling to have me compete with him for a share of the Quills‘ assets.
They had arrived brimming with rage, but they left feeling frustrated and utterly helpless.
At Elmswood Villa, Irvin returned home. He hadn’t had much sleep for the past few days. Loosening his tie, he instinctively wanted to call me over to massage his head.
But then he remembered that I was divorcing him.
Even after he threatened me by bringing up Shaun, I had only stayed for a few days before leaving again. The thought of this only made him more irritable and his headache worse.
Maureen looked at him with a face full of disappointment. “Mr. Sawyer, have you failed to appease Mrs. Sa and convince her to come home?”
“Appease her? Why should I?” Irvin snapped, thinking in annoyance why I wasn’t doing that now.
In the past, I was always the one to make peace first. Irvin couldn’t fathom why I’d suddenly decided to stop.

Maureen remained silent and wondered why I should be the one to make peace first. Irvin didn’t even know what kind of allergies I had. He never owned up to his mistakes, and he never even bothered to make it up to me. It was no wonder he couldn’t hold on to his wife.
Of course, Maureen didn’t dare say any of this out loud. She was just a housekeeper, after all.
Overwhelmed with frustration, Irvin tried to go to sleep in his room. But as he looked at the empty bedroom , not only did he feel no drowsiness, but he also felt suffocated.
Unable to bear staying in the house any longer, he grabbed his coat and went out again.
Not long after, he was drinking recklessly once more.
Gideon stepped forward and snatched the glass from him. Stop drinking. Even if you drink until you get stomach bleeding, your wife won’t come to see you.”
The people around them couldn’t tell whether Gideon was trying to soothe him or further provoke him. However, it was clear that his words hit a nerve.
With his glass taken away, Irvin simply drank straight from the bottle.
His crazed behavior made Gideon shake his head in disbelief. “Irvin, if you care about Emilia this much, why did you treat her like that?”
When one loved a woman, wouldn’t they treat her well? How could he treat me like dirt but look all anguished and heartbroken now?
