Following the abductor’s instructions, Emilia arrived at the designated location alone.
She knew the people who had taken Lauren were members of that criminal organization. They had abducted her grandmother to force her to go with them. This was because they wanted to get their hands on her research.
So, the moment Emilia walked in, she looked directly at the masked man sitting at the head of the room. “Let my grandmother go safely, and I’ll go with you!” she firmly demanded.
Then, to further ensure Lauren’s safety, she quickly added, “As long as she’s safe, I’ll do whatever you want.”
The masked man seemed to raise an eyebrow at that. “Oh? Is that so?”
Emilia answered him with an unwavering expression. “Yes.”
The masked man let out a low chuckle. “Alright then. Hand over all your research data for the Al chip you’ve developed, Ms. Quill.”
Emilia froze. She had known the criminal organization was after her research data. However, only she and her mentor knew that the chip had been successfully developed. This news had yet to be announced to the public.
The criminal organization shouldn’t have known about Emilia’s successful breakthrough. Hence, the assumption was that they would take her back to their base to continue her work. And until she had completed her work , they wouldn’t harm neither her nor her grandmother.
That was why Emilia and William had planned for her to go with the criminal organization first. And once Lauren had returned home safely, they would launch their counterattack.
She had never imagined that they actually knew the chip had already been successfully developed. Plus, Emilia hadn’t anticipated that instead of abducting her, the criminal organization would demand she hand over her research data.
She hadn’t even told her lab partners about the success yet, for fear the news might leak. So, how did they know that she not just made a major breakthrough but had succeeded in developing the chip too?
“What’s the matter, Ms. Quill?” the masked man asked. “Are you refusing to cooperate?”
Emilia didn’t respond. Her hands, hanging at her sides, clenched into tight fists.
It wasn’t that she couldn’t bear to give up her research data or that she would rather protect her work than save her grandmother. It was just that she knew exactly what would happen if she did cooperate.
Given this criminal organization’s ruthless reputation, if Emilia did hand over her research, they would immediately dispose of both her and her grandmother.
“Ms. Quill, if you won’t cooperate, then we’ll just have to send your grandmother off first.”
With that, the masked man waved his hand, and the large screen behind him turned on.
Emilia saw Lauren restrained and had a blade pressed against her neck. The blade was so sharp and so close to Lauren’s neck that the slightest more force would cause her to bleed out on the spot.
Emilia’s fists clenched tighter, her knuckles turning white. It took everything she had to force herself to remain calm.
Glaring at the masked man, she said, “I’ll give it to you , but you have to release my grandmother first!”
He snorted derisively. “I don’t think you understand your position Ms. Quill. You’re in no place to negotiate with me.”
With that , he waved his hand again.
Immediately, the blade at Lauren’s throat was pressed against it harder. Her blood instantly stained the sharp blade bright red. Watching her beloved grandmother be hurt like that, Emilia saw red. She was furious, but she was also terrified. Her body
