Jasmine lifted a glass of red wine to her lips and savored a sip.
“You really dive deep into those chick lit novels. There are countless people sharing the same first and last names out there, let alone just a surname. Take Bill Gates, for instance—he’s among the wealthiest, but does that mean every Gates is related to him p>

“My husband is a white-collar worker. He drives a national car and makes a six-figure salary. Do you honestly think someone from the York family would be driving that kind of vehicle? Your imagination is quite vivid, isn’t it p>
Serenity had never envisioned herself as a Cinderella-type. Daydreaming was one thing, but losing touch with reality was another matter entirely.
“Now that you mention it, could the head of the York family possibly have a different orientation if he’s avoiding young women? Is he married p>
Although Serenity wasn’t particularly interested in the young heir’s looks, it raised a question why he kept his distance from young females. He could be celibate or perhaps facing issues in that area. For all she knew, he might even be attracted to men.
“I haven’t heard anything about him tying the knot. Even if we aren’t part of that elite circle, a marriage like his would definitely shake things up in Wiltspoon. The media would have a field day covering the event. Since we haven’t heard anything, I guess he’s still single p>
Jasmine set her glass down. “Now that you mention it, something seems off. It’s quite strange for such a handsome guy not to have even one girlfriend p>
“We can never really know what’s going on in the minds of the wealthy. Let’s eat up. We should head out once we’re satisfied p>
“Absolutely,” Jasmine replied. The two friends dug in as if there was no tomorrow.

As he mingled with his parents among the crowd, his mother suddenly recalled Jasmine and instructed Shawn to keep an eye out for her.

Jasmine pulled a chair closer for her cousin to join her.
With a smile directed at Shawn, Serenity caught his attention, causing him to blush as he raised his glass toward her. “Do you drink, Serenity?” he asked, grinning.
“Not really,” Serenity replied.
She rarely indulged in alcohol, knowing she had a low tolerance. A single bottle of beer could leave her unconscious for twelve hours! The thought of embarrassing herself, her best friend, or the Lowe family by passing out at the event was enough to deter her from drinking.
“Would you prefer milk or juice? I can get you a glass,” Shawn offered, standing up to leave.
Serenity quickly pulled him back. “It’s okay, Shawn. I’m full. I don’t think I can handle another drink p>
