Realizing she also had a habit of locking her bedroom door, Serenity stopped her rambling. Ultimately, this was a side effect of marrying at first sight.
After gulping down the hangover cure that Zachary had prepared for her, Serenity returned to her room and went to bed for the night.
It was a peaceful night. The next day, Serenity awoke to the sun streaming onto her face.
She fumbled around her nightstand for her phone and checked the time: it was past seven o’clock. Even as an early riser, Serenity rarely got up this late; she typically woke up by six in the morning.
This was likely the result of having just one glass of wine the previous night.
Fortunately, she didn’t wake up with a headache.
However, she was feeling hungry. Serenity had felt guilty for her sister the night before, which had led her to eat very little at her sister’s place. Now, the hunger was settling in.
She quickly got dressed, brushed her teeth, and left her room. As she was about to head to the kitchen to start breakfast, she noticed a breakfast spread on the dining table. It was her favorite full breakfast, complete with bacon, sausages, hash browns, pancakes, and coffee.
Zachary emerged from the kitchen, holding perfectly cooked sunny-side-up eggs. Seeing that Serenity was awake, he said softly, “I didn’t see you when I got up, so I went out to get breakfast. I made some eggs p>
“I thought you cooked everything yourself,” she said, also intending to compliment him on his potential as a great chef.
It turned out he had ordered takeout.
Since Serenity was hungry, she took a seat and helped herself to a sausage.
“Don’t think you got the food from the restaurants around here.” While many local restaurants offered a full breakfast menu, the flavors often fell short. Hotel restaurants tended to provide more savory options.
“I drove to the Wiltspoon Hotel for breakfast. They have a good variety, and everything is made from scratch. Their food tastes incredible. I figured I might as well treat myself to the best around,” Zachary said.
In truth, Zachary had instructed his bodyguards to pick up takeout from the hotel.
“I agree. I prefer to indulge in the finest food available,” he added.
Serenity sampled Zachary’s eggs and realized they were quite good. With a smile, she remarked, “Mr. York, I can’t believe you have the potential to become a chef p>
Zachary was momentarily speechless.
Once the couple was nearly full, Zachary suddenly advised, “Serenity, it’s best not to confront your brother-in-law today p>
“Why not?” she asked.
“You should discuss with your sister whether she wants to continue her marriage. If they’re looking to reconcile, as her sister-in-law, you shouldn’t try to teach your brother-in-law a lesson. While you can’t act like nothing happened, it never hurts to ask.
“Even though you have a strong bond with your sister, she and her husband are committed for the long haul. If you create a scene, it may hinder their ability to move on. What if they decide to make up? You could end up being the villain, and your sister might hold you responsible for confronting your brother-in-law p>
