She admired Elisa for her courage and determination to pursue the heir of York.
“I don’t think Ms. Stone is as unreasonable as the rumors suggest. Her haughtiness seems to stem from her upbringing, but she hasn’t lost her perspective on life. Although she loves Mr. York, she mentioned that she wouldn’t pursue him if he were already in a relationship p>
Elisa’s pride prevented her from interfering in someone else’s relationship.
Jasmine agreed, “She sounds like a wonderful person. Since we aren’t in her social circle, we can’t fully understand her character without interacting with her. The rumors aren’t entirely reliable. Sometimes, seeing isn’t believing, and hearsay is even less trustworthy p>
Given Elisa’s prestigious status, it’s likely that those envious of her spread rumors portraying her as obnoxious, bossy, and rude.
Elisa’s visit didn’t affect Serenity at all.
She continued her routine while Jasmine persistently urged her to accompany her to Mrs. So-and-So’s birthday party.
“The party will be at the Dawsons’ mansion. They are neighbors of my aunt and do business together. My aunt wouldn’t invite me if she didn’t have a good relationship with them. You should come with me, Seren. My aunt is trying to set me up with her neighbor’s oldest son.” Jasmine vaguely recalled the Dawson’s son. She had met the neighbors during her frequent visits to her aunt’s house.
The young heir of the Dawson family was rather plump and, at best, average in appearance. No one would consider him attractive.
A passerby might do a double-take at the man on the street if he wasn’t born into wealth and power. Not everyone in high society has a pretty face.
“Mrs. Lowe is taking you to get ready for a date. Why should I join you p>
“It’s different this time; it’s Mrs. Dawson’s birthday party. I’m not going p>
Serenity remained firm, refusing to accompany her best friend to another event. While there would be many attendees, she would know only a handful. The food was her only motivation for attending; although she loved food, that didn’t mean she wanted to embarrass herself. The upper crust would never be caught stuffing their faces like she did.

Jasmine replied, “The guy isn’t good-looking at all. He’s short and overweight. He’s still single at thirty-five because of his looks. That’s why Mrs. Dawson is getting anxious and is becoming less picky about marrying within the same social class p>
“My aunt sees this as an opportunity for me to marry up. She doesn’t have my best interests at heart. I don’t want to go. My aunt even called my mom to team up against me. I had no choice but to comply with their request. My mom has been nagging me more than ever about how we’re the same age, yet you’re married while I’m still single. Is it wrong to be single at twenty-five p>
Jasmine felt truly pressured. She was not even thirty-five, yet her mother and aunt incessantly nagged her about marriage. Her mother had not been as insistent before Serenity got married. Now that Serenity had transitioned into married life, it seemed that everything Jasmine did was wrong in her mother’s eyes. Her mother could find fault even with the air she breathed, and Jasmine feared she might never find peace until she started dating.

Serenity believed that for Mrs. Lowe, it wasn’t solely about social status; character mattered too. Jasmine was still her niece, regardless of circumstances. Mrs. Lowe would never pressure her niece into a relationship with a terrible man unless she was willing to sever ties with Jasmine’s family.
