Jasmine and Serenity arrived at Liberty’s apartment. As Serenity stepped out of Jasmine’s car, her expression tightened upon seeing a familiar vehicle parked nearby. “What’s wrong?” Jasmine asked.
“That car belongs to Liberty’s sister-in-law. She must be here to cause trouble for my sister again. Liberty’s sister-in-law is one of the worst people I know; she’s comparable to the relatives from my hometown p>
Jasmine replied, “Let’s hurry then! If she tries to bully Liberty, we’ll kick her out together!” Serenity was already gathering her belongings to head inside.
Jasmine quickly followed her in. The Browns were visiting again. As usual, it was just Chelsea and Mrs. Brown, who had come to persuade Liberty to take Hank back home with them.
Hank had been living at his parents’ house but continued to eat at his sister’s place, as their parents took care of Chelsea’s children and prepared meals there. Fortunately, both his parents’ and sister’s homes were nearby, situated in the same neighborhood but on opposite blocks.
Chelsea observed how her parents brought home large quantities of delicious food for her brother each day. Although her family shared the meals, Chelsea felt envious of the preferential treatment her parents showed Hank by buying him expensive food. Thankfully, despite her greed, she maintained a sense of propriety and kept her discomfort to herself.
Having benefited from her parents’ attention for so long, Chelsea had grown accustomed to monopolizing their support. After Hank had stayed at their parents’ house for a few days, Chelsea took the lead in trying to reconcile him with Liberty so he could return home as soon as possible.
“Liberty, it’s normal for couples to argue,” Chelsea said. “Very few couples have never had disagreements. You should give it a few days to cool down. Life has to go on, don’t you think p>
He is a big man with strong self-esteem, but he genuinely feels remorse for hitting you that day. We were also wrong for taking his side. You should consider compromising and bringing him back. Put the incident behind you and continue living a happy life as you always have.
As soon as Serenity opened the door, she overheard Mrs. Brown trying to persuade her sister.
Chelsea said, “Liberty, you should be cautious about another woman stealing your husband if you keep giving Hank the cold shoulder. Hank is young and has a promising future. He’s quite handsome and looks like a bachelor. Many young women are attracted to mature men like him who have a successful career.” Hank was a manager with a five-figure monthly salary and earned additional income from commissions, which brought his total to nearly a hundred thousand dollars a month. To Chelsea, Hank represented success, which led her to look down on Liberty, believing she was unworthy of her brother.
Furthermore, Liberty had yet to promise to help take care of Chelsea’s children, which greatly displeased Chelsea. Chelsea’s oldest child was starting junior high school the following year, and the issue of school pick-up and drop-off needed to be resolved quickly. Consequently, Chelsea felt the need to persuade Liberty to agree. If not, she wouldn’t readily soften her stance or accompany her mother in convincing Liberty.
