“If you’d like, we can take a weekend trip to the seaside and enjoy some freshly caught seafood p>
This was Zachary’s first time suggesting a weekend getaway.
“But it’s already November p>
“As long as the sun cooperates, November in Wiltspoon can still be warm, especially during the day. It’s actually a great time for a seaside holiday. It won’t be too cold, nor too hot p>
Serenity rubbed her stomach. “We can discuss this later. I can’t be sure I won’t have other plans that weekend p>
Zachary simply hummed in response.
While he cleared the table and took the dishes into the kitchen to wash, his formidable wife reminded him, “Don’t use too much dishwashing liquid and create a sink full of bubbles p>
Zachary maintained a serious expression and did not reply.
After ten minutes, he finished washing the dishes.
Having checked the fridge earlier, he knew there were various fruits inside.
He washed a fruit plate, selected some of each type of fruit, and rinsed them before cutting them into pieces and arranging them on the plate. After adding a few toothpicks, he exited the kitchen with the fruit plate.
“Here, have some fruit p>
He placed the fruit plate on the counter.
Serenity was momentarily speechless. “Are you trying to make me so full I’ll burst p>
Zachary gently poked her forehead. “Don’t you know that a walk can help with digestion p>
Serenity was taken aback by his sudden intimate gesture and instinctively raised her hand to swat it away, but he withdrew his hand before she could make contact. She ended up smacking the air instead.
“We should go out for a walk soon,” he suggested.
Serenity sat up straight and asked, “Don’t you have a business engagement tonight p>
“There was one scheduled, but Nana insisted I come over to eat with you, so I had to cancel it p>
Feeling embarrassed, Serenity replied, “I didn’t ask Nana to do that, you know p>
Her relationship with Grandma May was strong; she had married him largely due to her influence. Concerned that Zachary might think she was manipulating Grandma May, Serenity felt the need to clarify.
Zachary looked at her with his keen, dark eyes and said gently, “I know that wasn’t your intention p>
Nana was giving him an out.
Serenity glanced at the clock and noted it was just past seven. “It’s still early. What time was your business meeting originally? You can still go if you want p>
Zachary fell silent.
The moment he stopped speaking, tension creased his features, making him appear particularly serious and cold. His thin lips pressed together tightly, resembling a clam.
There is a saying that men with thin lips are ungrateful.
Whether or not he would prove to be ungrateful, Serenity couldn’t say, but she knew he was cold-hearted and unfriendly toward younger women.
If it hadn’t been for her chance encounter with Nana, where she had helped her and earned her gratitude, and if Zachary weren’t so devoted to his grandmother, he would have likely treated her much worse.
In fact, he might not have even married her in the first place.
Zachary met Serenity’s gaze, and the two exchanged looks.
“Serenity, do you really dislike being alone with me that much p>
When Zachary asked this, his tone was low, and his gaze toward Serenity carried a dangerous glint.
“Do you enjoy being alone with me?” Serenity countered.
Once again, Zachary was silent.
His silence provided Serenity with her answer. She didn’t mind either way, so she pulled out her phone to watch videos. “Mr. York, if you’re busy, feel free to attend to your work. I’m accustomed to managing the shop by myself,” she said.
In truth, she was not accustomed to having Zachary around to keep her company.
Zachary’s expression darkened; she was pushing him away!
