Zachary chose to remain quiet.
The culprit behind the chipped paint on Duncan’s car was none other than his new sister-in-law, whom Zachary had yet to meet.
“It’s getting late, Mr. York. I’m heading to bed,” Serenity announced.
Even though she had reassured her sister that everything would turn out fine, Serenity couldn’t shake off her feelings of unease regarding the damage.
With a brief goodnight to Zachary, she retreated to her room.
Just as Zachary was about to speak, Serenity had already vanished behind her bedroom door.
As for the flowers on the balcony, Serenity planned to tackle the floral arrangement when daylight returned.
Yet, Zachary felt a strange sensation, almost as if he was anticipating some form of recognition for his good deed.
“Mr. York,” Serenity suddenly reappeared, her door swinging open. “I noticed you got the washing machine. How much did it cost p>
“I spent seven thousand on two machines,” Zachary replied.
Serenity compared that price to the washing machine at her sister’s home and, finding it reasonable, chose to remain silent.
“Serenity,” Zachary called out just before she could close her door.
“Regarding your sister’s situation, it’s not a problem. If she needs financial help, just let me know. I can lend her some money p>
Gratefully, Serenity responded, “Thank you, Mr. York. We’ll see how it goes when the bill arrives. If we can’t gather enough funds, I’ll write an IOU for my sister p>
Though they were still strangers, having only been newlyweds for a few days, Serenity appreciated Zachary’s willingness to assist her sister in this time of need.
“It’s late. You should rest. Don’t worry too much; things will eventually work out for the best,” he advised.
“You too,” she replied.
“Goodnight,” Serenity said once more as she made her way back to her bedroom.
Meanwhile, Zachary lingered in the living room for a little while before heading to his own room. Once he closed the door behind him, he quickly pulled out his phone to call Duncan.
“Hey, are you asleep, Duncan?” Zachary asked.
Duncan, grinning, replied, “No way! I don’t go to bed until three in the morning. What’s going on? Are you treating me to drinks? Come over to my place; I’d love to share my wine collection with you p>
Zachary shifted the conversation. “By the way, how much would it cost to repaint your car?” He hadn’t gotten a good look at the damage, so he was unsure of what to expect.
Duncan shrugged off the concern. “It’s just a minor scratch. Shouldn’t be more than ten thousand bucks to fix it.” He paused before adding, “Are you planning on submitting a claim to your insurance p>
