Serenity was a fast eater. She quickly finished her meal and took over Liberty’s tasks so that Liberty could eat.
As for the in-laws, their sole concern was filling their own bellies; they showed little regard for Liberty.
It was as if Liberty didn’t experience hunger at all.
“Mom, have some shrimp,” Hank said, serving his mother a few pieces before turning to his sister. “Chelsea, have some more. They’re all your favorites p>
While feasting on crab, Chelsea remarked, “We didn’t get the Alaskan King Crabs this time. These crabs are tiny and lack meat. I can barely taste them p>
The disdain in her voice was unmistakable.
Hank remained silent for a moment before replying, “I’ll take you to a fancy restaurant next time p>
“Restaurant food is pricey. Money doesn’t grow on trees. Just wire me the cash next time, and I’ll buy the ingredients for Liberty to cook,” Chelsea suggested, making it sound as if she were doing her brother a favor.
“Sounds good,” Hank agreed.
Since he only needed to give Liberty a small amount for her work, it made sense for him to let his sister handle the shopping.
Of course, he planned to give her significantly more money for groceries.
Chelsea loved seafood and always insisted on having it whenever she visited. Given its high cost, three hundred bucks wouldn’t be enough for the groceries he needed to buy for her.
The Browns enjoyed their dinner with enthusiasm. Although the shrimp and crabs were small, Liberty’s cooking was exceptional. In truth, both Liberty and her sister had a knack for making every dish taste amazing.
Before long, the family finished dinner, leaving the seafood plates spotless. They left nothing for Liberty.
Mrs. Brown set down her cutlery and wiped her mouth with a napkin, then asked, “What will Liberty eat now that we’ve finished p>
“Food?” she asked. She then turned to Liberty and said, “Liberty, we’ve accidentally finished the food. Cook yourself an egg or something later.” Without raising her head, Liberty replied as if accustomed to the situation, “Got it.” Feeling full, Sonny kept his mouth shut, refusing any additional food offered to him. Liberty encouraged him to eat a bit more, but the little boy covered his mouth, turning down another bite. “Are you full, Sonny?” she asked. Sonny rubbed his belly and innocently responded, “Mama, I full.” Liberty gently stroked his belly with a warm smile. “I see. Sonny has had enough. Why don’t you go play over there for a while? Mama is going to eat now.” “Okay,” he replied. As Liberty stood up, she instructed Hank, “Watch Sonny.” Without a word, Hank approached and picked Sonny up, allowing him to enjoy playing with the toy in his arms. Chelsea cleared the dinner table and followed Liberty into the kitchen. Spotting the baking tray soaking in the sink, Chelsea felt a smug satisfaction, realizing what had happened. That was what Liberty got for being arrogant; there was no food left for her. Liberty deserved to go hungry. Still, Chelsea remarked, “Why aren’t there any more potatoes? Hank should have saved some for you.” She set down the dirty dishes, initially planning to let Liberty wash them, but then decided to do it herself. “But you’re overweight. Skipping a meal won’t hurt you; it’s time for you to go on a diet,” she added. Ignoring Chelsea, Liberty washed her son’s plate before moving to the stove. She opened the oven and retrieved a plate of potatoes, a plate of shrimp and crab, and a plate of greens.
