Last night, Serenity stayed up late, eagerly waiting for Zachary to return home so they could discuss their grocery shopping plans for Saturday morning. To ensure everything was in order, Serenity had called Nana the previous night to get a headcount. It turned out that Zachary’s brothers and cousins would be joining them as well. Nana believed that since Serenity was married to Zachary, she was now a part of the York family. Her intention was to gather everyone together to introduce them and strengthen the family bonds.
Given the amount of food they would need to buy, Serenity realized she couldn’t carry all the groceries by herself. So, she asked Zachary to drive her to the market.
As he had done the previous day, Zachary was abruptly awakened by Serenity’s cheerful morning call at six o’clock sharp.
Still groggy from the early wake-up, Zachary had to suppress his irritation to avoid snapping at Serenity.
“Mr. York,” Serenity greeted him, her bright voice cutting through the morning gloom.
With his eyebrows furrowed, Zachary responded gruffly, “Give me ten minutes p>
“Sure! I made some pancakes. Come and have some once you’re ready. We can head to the market after breakfast,” she replied cheerfully. Zachary couldn’t help but ask, “What time did you get up?” It was only six in the morning, yet Serenity already had breakfast prepared.
“About five,” she answered.
Preparing a feast for everyone was no small task, and Serenity had started early to ensure everything was perfect. Without saying another word, Zachary ended the call.
He appreciated Serenity’s enthusiasm about meeting his family; it meant a lot to him.
Ten minutes later, Zachary made his way to the dining table, dressed casually.
Serenity was already enjoying her breakfast, and with a smile, she encouraged him, “Try my pancakes! My sister says I make the best pancakes p>
Zachary glanced at the delicious spread before him, intrigued by her culinary skills.
Breakfast spread was enticing, with pancakes that looked absolutely delicious. Zachary couldn’t resist and polished off an entire plate. Indeed, they were delightful, a testament to Serenity’s culinary skills.
He felt fortunate in that regard. Zachary preferred her home-cooked meals over takeout any day. Meanwhile, Serenity busied herself by clearing the table and washing the dishes in the kitchen.
“Mr. York, do you only own dark-colored clothing?” she asked playfully.
Zachary’s silence spoke volumes, confirming her suspicion.
“What’s your size? I could add some color to your wardrobe during my next shopping trip. You already have a stern look, and the dark clothes make you seem even more unapproachable p>
Noticing the chill in his eyes, Zachary responded with a frosty tone, “Stay out of my wardrobe choices!” Dark colors were his preference, and if she had an issue with that, it was of no concern to him.
Realizing his displeasure, Serenity chose to retreat. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to overstep. Everyone has their own tastes; I shouldn’t impose mine on you p>
Zachary let the conversation end there and made his way to the balcony. The serene view of the small garden helped alleviate the tension etched on his face.
A few minutes later, Serenity grabbed her purse and called out, “Let’s go, Mr. York p>
Zachary returned from the balcony without a word, quietly taking his keys, and together they left the house. They both made a conscious effort to avoid mentioning the earlier disagreement.
As they navigated their shared living space, it became clear that they were still in the process of getting to know each other. More unexpected clashes were likely to arise in the future.
Serenity had a keen eye for detail and had already organized the menu for the day, even listing the necessary ingredients. With a shopping list ready, gathering the items would be a straightforward task.
They held a strong admiration for Serenity’s approach to life.
