Meanwhile, in an apartment, Hank was rummaging through the bedside table for a pack of cigarettes. He pulled out a cigarette and was about to light it when the woman beside him reached over. “Give me one too,” she said.
Hank handed Jessica a cigarette and helped her light it.
“Just smoke occasionally,” he advised.
Hank was not a heavy smoker; he only smoked while discussing business with clients. Generally, he avoided smoking unless he had something weighing on his mind.
Liberty disliked men who smoked frequently because she found their breath unpleasant.
Although Jessica smoked, she pretended to be virtuous and never lit up in front of Hank. However, since they had been intimate and Hank was preparing to divorce Liberty for her, she felt there was no longer a need to hide it. Hank would discover her secret eventually.
After finishing half a cigarette, she leaned against him and asked softly, “What’s on your mind p>
“It’s nothing,” he replied.
Jessica laughed and traced her fingers over his chest. “Can’t bear to divorce that overweight woman in your house p>
“Of course not. I was just thinking about how to draft the divorce agreement. I told my parents I would give Liberty two hundred thousand, but they both thought that was excessive. When my sister found out, she scolded me, saying I was too generous to someone who hasn’t earned a penny since our marriage p>
“I’m just considering that we’re still husband and wife, and I was the one who let her down first. We should part on good terms, so I plan to give her two hundred thousand p>

Jessica felt relieved. “My parents keep asking when we’ll get married. They think you’re too good, and someone might steal you away p>
She didn’t dare tell her parents that she was involved in someone else’s marriage, so she lied and said that Hank was still single.
At only thirty and having a successful career, her parents believed her claim about his single status. They proudly shared with friends and relatives how she had found such a capable boyfriend.
“We’ll get our marriage license as soon as I’m divorced, and then we’ll have a grand wedding,” he promised.

The two exchanged sweet nothings for a while, and then Hank got out of bed to draft the divorce agreement.
After completing it, he handed it to Jessica for her review.
Hank was primarily focused on his own interests, so the divorce agreement was fairly acceptable to Jessica. The only point of contention for her was his desire to retain custody of Sonny.
Deep down, Jessica hoped that Hank would give up custody of
Sonny allowed Liberty to take him away, ensuring she wouldn’t have to face that eyesore. Who would want to take in and raise a child that wasn’t theirs?
