Grandma May was playing along with her grandson, and whether Serenity would be upset later was a problem for him to handle.
Serenity entered from the balcony after finishing up with the plants. “Can we leave now? I’ll take you to the office first,” she asked Zachary. “No need,” he replied. “You can take Nana to pick up Sonny and Mrs. Lane. I’ll drive myself to the office.” Zachary still had numerous arrangements to make, and he preferred to keep his secret from Serenity for now. Serenity didn’t push the matter. Since she didn’t need to see him off, she was glad to have some time to herself. “I’ll wait for you downstairs, Seren,” Grandma May said, being considerate as she took the three pets downstairs, allowing the young couple some privacy.
Zachary stood up and walked over to Serenity, wrapping his arms around her. “I really wish I could take you with me.” After a brief silence, Serenity gently pushed him away. “Even if I went, I wouldn’t be able to help you. I’d just be bored and alone in an unfamiliar city while you’re busy p>
“Since you’re busy, I might as well stay home and wait for your return,” she said.
