Duncan approached Sonny and offered him the pinwheel.
Sonny declined to accept it.
“Mr. Lewis, Sonny already has plenty of toys,” Liberty explained.
“It’s not much. I was passing a toy store and thought the pinwheel at the entrance looked nice. I bought it for him since the wind is strong today, and I thought he might enjoy it,” Duncan replied.
He had made a special trip to deliver the pinwheel; otherwise, he wouldn’t have stopped by.
Handing the pinwheel to Liberty, Duncan said, “Please hold this for Sonny p>
Since the pinwheel was inexpensive, Liberty accepted the gift and thanked Duncan on Sonny’s behalf before giving it to her son.
Sonny finally took the pinwheel.
Duncan said hesitantly, “Sonny seems scared of me. I offered him the pinwheel, but he didn’t want it until you handed it to him p>
Serenity chuckled and replied, “I’m his mother. I’ve been with him since he was in my womb, so I’m the closest person to him p>
Duncan laughed in delight. “Sorry, that didn’t come out right p>
Looking around the shop, he asked, “You come here every day. What keeps you busy p>
The shop looked immaculate.
However, it would likely be turned upside down when renovations started next year.
“I bought materials for the renovations. I just tinkered around here; that’s how I spend my day,” Liberty replied.
In other words, she was simply passing the time.
“I see.” With his gaze on Liberty, Duncan teased, “You’re losing weight faster than when I first asked you to run five laps at the office p>
“I still run every day, but I’ve put myself on a strict diet, cutting out sugar and fats. I don’t eat full meals either. I’ve lost twenty pounds since I asked Hank for a divorce,” she explained.
She had lost twenty pounds. Given her height, Liberty needed to lose another eighty pounds to reach the recommended weight.
“That’s great! Keep it up,” someone encouraged. Liberty smiled, remembering that she had bought some fruits and kept them in the shop. She asked, “Would you like some fruit? I just got them today. Let me get you some p>
“It’s okay. I’m heading to a meeting. I should let you get back to work,” came the reply.
Noticing that Sonny was enjoying the pinwheel, Duncan playfully pinched his cheek. By the time Sonny realized what had happened, Duncan had already pulled his arm away.
Sonny shot him an annoyed glare.
Mr. Lewis approached Sonny from behind.
“Sonny, Mr. Lewis is going to work. Say goodbye,” he instructed.
With the surprise greeting a success, Duncan cheerfully waved goodbye to Sonny. Reluctantly, Sonny waved back at Duncan as his mother urged him to respond.
As Duncan left Liberty’s shop, he bumped into Mrs. Brown, who had just exited her car.
From the glass window, Mrs. Brown noticed Duncan gently stroking Sonny’s face. He waved and said goodbye to Liberty and her son before departing the shop.
Mrs. Brown immediately felt wary upon seeing Duncan.
Wasn’t he the boss at Liberty’s former workplace? Was he pursuing her?
Mrs. Brown found it hard to believe that a divorced woman like Liberty could be desirable.
However, when she spotted the scar on Duncan’s face, she thought she understood the situation. His disfigurement likely caused him problems in the marriage department.
