Zachary was feeling neglected. Throughout the afternoon, he wore a long face, leaving everyone at York Corporation anxious and puzzled. It was unclear who had managed to upset the usually stoic CEO.
His typical detached demeanor was intensified by the tense lines etched into his chiseled features, making him appear even more intimidating.
Even Callum and Josh decided to keep their distance from Zachary.
Despite his frustration, Zachary upheld his commitment and waited for Serenity at the shop after work.
With Serenity preoccupied, he took it upon himself to assist behind the cash register.
However, his stern demeanor, quiet presence, and towering stature only succeeded in discouraging the students from approaching the register.
They could hardly muster the courage to engage with anyone but Serenity and Jasmine.
Serenity bluntly remarked, “I’ll take over from here, Mr. York.” Zachary tilted his head, looking deeply into Serenity’s eyes.
After a moment of contemplation, he rose with a displeased expression and walked around the cash register, stepping outside the shop to stand like a statue of ice.
His imposing figure and the ominous aura surrounding him made it clear to everyone to keep their distance.
The problem wasn’t that no one wanted to pay him; it was that no one dared to enter the shop except for those already inside.
Serenity was at a loss for words. Observing the situation, Jasmine leaned in and whispered to her best friend, “Serenity, you need to take Mr. York away now. I can manage the shop by myself. His presence at the entrance is driving our sales down p>
“Thanks, Jas,” Serenity replied with a sigh, getting up helplessly to step outside.
She called to Zachary, “Come on.” But he remained rooted in place, refusing to budge.
It was only when Serenity attempted to pull him away that he hissed in protest…
Clenching his teeth, Zachary exclaimed, “You think I’m no help!” Serenity, unsure of how to respond, instinctively reached out and grabbed his arm.
“I don’t think so,” she replied. “It’s just not a job for you, that’s all. The students are afraid of you. They’re more terrified of seeing you than their teachers.” With that, she pulled him into the car.
“I’ll take the new car home, and then you can drive us to my sister’s,” she added, and Zachary, without offering any objections, quietly agreed to her plan.
He felt a slight lift in his mood. Serenity was right; as the heir of the York family, he had never engaged in the service sector. Being the firstborn had predetermined his destiny to take over the family’s business and responsibilities.
Zachary stepped into the role of CEO of York Corporation the moment he reached adulthood and was capable of managing the company. His position at the top only seemed to enhance his air of aloofness. Aside from a few trusted executives, most people at York Corporation tended to avoid him.
It was remarkable that Serenity didn’t hold his stoic demeanor against him when they signed the papers just minutes after meeting.
Hmm… he thought. He should really thank Serenity for not dismissing him. If she had shunned him when he was eager to obtain a marriage license with her, he would have felt utterly humiliated.
