No matter how slowly he drove, Zachary soon arrived at Liberty’s place.
Liberty preferred to stay close to her sister while searching for a rental, so her apartment was located near Brynfield.
Zachary parked the car.
“We’re here,” he announced.
Serenity opened the car door, bid farewell to Zachary, and stepped out.
“I’ll take you upstairs,” he offered.
“No need. You should head back. Drive safely and get some rest at home tomorrow. You don’t look well,” she replied.
With his dark eyes fixed on her, Zachary asked softly, “Seren, you still care about me, right p>
He reached for her hand, but she turned and walked into the building.
Zachary lingered at the entrance, watching her ascend. In the end, he chose not to accompany her to the door.
He had his pride as well. He had humbled himself before her several times, yet she had never accepted his gestures.
After a while, he turned and returned to the car. He called Josh and Duncan, inviting them to meet at Neon Nights for a drink.
Once the call ended, he drove straight to the bar.
Josh and Duncan arrived ahead of him. They requested a private room and ordered beers while waiting.
Upon entering and noticing the beers, Zachary exclaimed, “Are there no good drinks here, or do you not have enough money for something better? Why settle for beer? When it comes to alcohol, the stronger, the better! No one is going home sober tonight p>
Since tomorrow was the weekend, he could sleep in.
Josh replied, “I’ll hang out with you guys, but I won’t drink. One of us needs to stay sober. Who will drive you home otherwise p>
“Plus, I have to take Jasmine to her aunt’s house for dinner tomorrow, so I can’t afford to drink or get drunk,” he added.
curiously ask, “You’re already meeting Ms. Sox’s family? That’s quite a fast pace p>
“I wish that were the case. Jasmine prefers to take things slowly. Mrs. Lowe has set her up with another blind date—an executive from Lowe Enterprise. Inviting her over for dinner is just a ruse for her to meet that guy p>
“How dare anyone pursue a woman I have my eye on? No matter how impressive he is, he can’t compare to me p>
He wanted to make it clear that he was interested in Jasmine so the Sox family would stop arranging blind dates for her.
Duncan chuckled. “There really aren’t many people who can measure up to you p>
Zachary ordered several bottles of spirits and settled onto the sofa to drink.
“You seemed overjoyed when you went to pick up your wife. What happened? Haven’t you two reconciled? Why are you drinking p>
Zachary remained silent, focusing on his drink.
Duncan joined him and downed two glasses, while Josh refrained from having any alcohol.
“Zachary, if something’s bothering you, talk to us. I may not be able to assist, but Josh can help you analyze the situation. It’s better than banging your head against the wall p>
Duncan intervened as Zachary reached for the last bottle, frowning. “Stop drinking. At this rate, you’ll end up in a coma p>
Zachary shrugged off Duncan’s hand, grabbed the bottle, and poured himself another glass. Instead of sipping from it, he lifted the bottle and drank directly from it, emptying it in one go.
His grip slackened, causing the bottle to slip from his hand and shatter on the floor.
In a sudden outburst, he swept all the bottles and glasses from the table to the ground, where they crashed loudly.
The waiter at the door, startled by the noise, stepped into the room to investigate.
He quickly checked on them. When he realized it was Josh and the others, he hurriedly retreated and closed the door.
