The line went deathly silent.
After a few seconds, he finally seemed to find his voice.

I ignored his disbelief.
“I meant every word I said. You almost killed my mom. I won’t stop until you’re completely disgraced and the Montgomerys are driven out of this city for good p>
“Chloe, Mom’s fine now! There’s nothing between Lila and me-what more do you want p>
“Whether you’re innocent isn’t for you to decide p>
I spoke quietly, staring out the window.
“The moment you brought Lila into our home and made my mother apologize to her, there was nothing left

His breathing grew ragged.
“You’re really going to take it this far p>
I let out a faint, cold laugh.
“Ruthless? This is nothing compared to what you did to my mother p>
I hung up and blocked his number.
Forty-eight hours after the investment withdrawal notice went out, all major partners of the Montgomerys’ core business sent termination letters simultaneously.

Mr. Montgomery called my private line again and again.
I declined every call, then finally turned my phone off.
He showed up at the company.
The receptionist stopped him downstairs.
His hair was disheveled, his voice laced with desperation.
“Please, let me see her-five minutes… no, two minutes p>
The receptionist gave a polite, well-trained smile.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Montgomery. Ms. Bennett’s schedule is completely full today p>
His eyes reddened. He suddenly pointed toward the floor-to-ceiling windows.
“You tell her! If she won’t see me, I’ll jump off this building today p>
The receptionist paled. After a moment of hesitation, she dialed the internal line.
Mr. Montgomery practically snatched the receiver.
But the voice that came through was my father’s-cold, without a single trace of warmth.
Dad didn’t even give him a chance to speak.
“Chloe is now the CEO of Bennett Group. Her decisions are the company’s decisions. If you want to jump, go ahead. Just don’t make a mess of my daughter’s building p>
The line went dead,
Mr. Montgomery stood frozen with the phone in his hand, all color draining from his face.
He thought this was all my father’s doing.
He never imagined that the soft, gentle girl who once stuck by his son could really hold the Montgomerys’ fate in her hands with one word.
Staggering out of the building, Mr. Montgomery rushed straight to Ethan’s apartment.
As soon as the door opened, he slapped Ethan across the face.
Ethan’s head snapped to the side. A bright red mark immediately rose on his cheek.
He stared at his father in disbelief.

Ethan covered his face, his eyes darting away, but he still argued defensively.
“Chloe’s mom hit her first! I brought Lila over to apologize-slapping her was a slap to my face! The Bennetts
are the ones who went too far p>
Mr. Montgomery grabbed Ethan by the collar, his eyes bloodshot.
“Let me tell you something-without the Bennetts’ support all these years, without your father-in-law pulling strings behind the scenes, you think a college professor like you could have built up the Montgomery
