“This is the second time you’ve asked me if I need money,” he replied. The first time had been years ago, abroad. She had found him, beaten and broken, and when they parted, she had asked him the same question. He had said he was fine, but she had transferred money to him anyway and stuffed a wad of cash into
his pocket.
She really hadn’t changed at all.
“It’s nothing. I have money. You don’t need to worry about me, sister.” He shoved his hands in his pockets, a lazy, youthful energy about him. His silver hair blew in the wind, making him look like a carefree student.
He was being flippant again. Rebekah sighed and put her card away. “I can’t open the studio just yet, but it will be soon. Consider this million an investment from you. I’ll pay you back two million with interest when I start making money p>
Jensen’s eyes curved into crescents. “Okay p>
Rebekah held the painting, a warm feeling spreading through her chest as she looked at his smiling face. A gust of wind blew a speck of dust into her right eye. She squeezed her eye shut and rubbed it.
“What’s wrong?” Jensen asked, concerned.
“Something’s in my eye p>
“Don’t rub it,” he said, gently taking her wrist. He cupped her face, held her eye open, and blew softly.
Just then, Sienna and Candice came out and saw them. From their angle, it looked like they were kissing. A mocking smile spread across Candice’s face as she took out her phone and snapped a picture. Sienna, still carrying the tea set, turned red with rage.
When the dust was gone, Sienna’s furious voice cut through the air. “What do you two think you’re doing p>
Rebekah blinked, her eye finally clear, and wiped away a tear.
“Is it better?” Jensen asked, his brow furrowed with worry. “Yes, thank you p>

His voice was so cold it sent a shiver down her spine, and she froze, terrified.
Rebekah had no desire to argue with a child. “Didn’t you say you had to go? You should head out. I need to get back, too p>

The driver floored it, chasing after Jensen’s car.
